Presents for 7 month old baby?

I'm travelling out to see my cousin and her 7 month old baby next week. Now, I know nothing about babies, but I'd like to buy him a present. Not clothes, because he'll grow out of them at lightning speed and I'd like to get him something that lasts; and not a cuddly toy, because apparently he has dozens. But a toy or something that's a bit unusual or more interesting. Does anyone (who has more baby experience than me!) have any suggestions for a cool baby gift? My budget is probably about £20, but it's flexible. Thanks!

they might already have one, but if not you could get him a baby book? Obviously would be used more by his parents than him in the beginning, but its a really nice thing to have and look back on. If you're artistic you could get a plainer book and make one up yourself..........
personally though, I know i'd end up in Baby Gap all the same:P Even just for something little.....

How about a mobile for his crib? With little birds or planes, things like that, so he can watch them going round and round and gurgle the way babies do.

I don't know much about babies either

7 months old is boring, get him a book or something, then something much cooler when he's like a year old. it's not like he's gunna appreciate it right now anyways, unless it's a boob.

I play the harp at a lot of Christenings, and I've seen some really really cute presents:

*Embroidered blankets, with personalised initials/names on. Some beautiful designs. If you're strapped for cash you can buy a nice one from Mothercare or similar and then sew on the letters yourself.

*Baby silver bracelet, with one single charm on it - each time you see the baby you give them a new charm so that by the time they're 15 they have a full set of charms.

*As somebody already said, a blank baby book. They're so lovely when they're all filled in - my mum and I still take a look at mine and laugh every now and again.

*Plater of paris baby foot/hand print kit - basically you make a 3d plaster cast of the baby's hand/footprint. Especially cute to coo over, saying 'my, haven't they grown!'

*Adopt an animal in their name - yes, they appreciate it more when they're older but the parents will like it.

*Premium bonds, 'cause even £20 worth can make the baby a millionaire in the future!

*A lovely cushion for the nursery - more of a present for mum, as she can use it as a backrest while breastfeeding. Laura Ashley do some lovely ones... Yes, I am biased 'cause I work there lol :P

*Any form of stuffed toy. [If there's a Bear Factory nearby, why not get one made especially? You can choose clothes and shoes and everything, plus a 'birth certificate' with the recipient's name on. Very very cute and personal ]
