Exercise and eat in moderation. Or eat liquids for a few days if you drastically want to lose weight quickly (Really isn't a cure for long term weight loss! Good luck with everything xxx

Is there anyway to lose some belly in a short space of time. does eating less help?

Nope, eating less is a sure way to put on weight. In fact if you want to lose weight you should try eating as much as you can. That'll certainly work. I heard an interview with Brad Pitt just after Fight Club came out and he said he got into shape by ordering two pizzas instead of just the one everytime he rang up Pizza Hut. Given that all you have to do to stay skinny is eat huge amounts I'm amazed at the rising levels of obesity. Hope that helps!

could be bloating....excess alcohol and eating the wrong things can cause it (not assuming this is the cause...but first few days at uni......:P)
if tis bloating then eating plenty of fruit and veg and generally healthy foods for a couple of days, coupled with some exercise and lots of water tends to do a world of good. If you've gained weight, then the same applies really, just for a longer period of time.

In a bad mood today...?

Just eat healthily and exercise. Theres bound to be some change, its a different culture completly.
Give it a few weeks, though. Your body will need time to settle down before you instantly hit the "I need to lose weigh" crisis.

Vaguely, but it was also just about the most fatuous question I've heard. Ever.

Just think about your day in terms of calories if you're dead set on changing your diet. You'll typically use 2000 calories a day - there's online calculators which can help find out roughly how much you use per day. If you go over, you're putting on weight because you're not using the energy. If you go under, you're losing weight because the energy you need for that day is not all coming from food.

Look at the nutrition advice on things and just become more aware of what you're eating (chocolate?), why you're eating (to feel better?) and how much you're eating.

Just a guess at the cause...

Girls do get fat in uni, it's well known fact.

Give it a few months and the fresh faced first years will make Ms Piggy look slender.

Oink oink!

Actually, you're taking the piss, but that's not that far from the truth. Just cutting down on what you eat isn't that effective in itself and can actually make it stupidly difficult to lose weight as your metabolism crashes, and when you stop dieting you'll put it all back on. A balanced diet and exercise is much better than just blinding cutting calories, unless you're eating stupidly over the calorie limit in the first place.

And if you are doing a stupid amount of exercise, two pizzas is probably a damn good idea as you need protein to build muscle and a hell of a lot of calories just to burn off. That said, I'm sure you can get them healthier than Pizza Hut which are a bit excessive on the fat.

try to stay away from carbs, sugar and excessive salt and junk food and stuff. just eat healthy and stuff. cardiovascular exercise helps to get rid of fat. do slow crunches and it will tone your abdomen.

Try drinking less.

Rubbish. You lose weight if you're using more calories than you're consuming.

True. But if you eat under the "starvation limit", your body goes into starvation mode, and it starts to consume muscle instead of fat, and your metabolism crashes.
Some people think that by eating, say, 500 kcal for a month, they'll lose weight and be happy, but it doesn't work like that, by any means.

Yeah, but I am not talking about any of that. The question was:

Is there anyway to lose some belly in a short space of time. does eating less help?

And the answer is yes, eating less will make you less fat assuming you're burning more calories than your new (smaller) intake of food. The greater the calories deficit (within reason) the faster you will lose weight.

It's really not rocket science.

Well...ok so eating less WILL in the SHORT term aid a little weight loss, but only for a short time. You'll start thinking "Heck I lost 3lbs I can have a muffin" And as soon as you start eating your 'normal' amount again you'll gain it all back and then some. Try to aim for 30 mins exercise a day, which shouldn't be hard at uni, what with running all over the campus to different things. Crunches and sit ups tone a stomach in a surprisingly short time if you don't do any at all right now. To start with, try drinking 8 pints or more of water a day. Don't go hardcore dieting from the word go, because it coud just be water retention bloating your stomach, it's easy enough for girls.

Also, try not to eat after 7pm, because your metabolism slows down at this point and it's harder to burn all the carbs and calories in foods. Be careful with things like breads and pastas, they're full of carbs that, when you don't burn them properly, will be stored instead and be adding to weight gain. They're the tricky ones. Fat grams (urgh it's never ending) you need to be careful of too. Essentially you need a little of everything, just don't overdo it with the heavy stuff, and balance more fruit and veg into your diet. Switch sweet snacks for cereal bars if you're not fond of fruit.

Watch your alcohol too. If you're drinking things like beer/lager etc they're going to pile on weight too, they're basically fat and carbs.

But hey, it's a lot to think about. Maybe just join a swim class for a bit or something.

i think eating late at night makes you put on weight because you can't digest properly. maybe it's from having lots of late nights?

Edit: ah ok, someone already said that.

Depends on how little willpower you have. The fact is people generally get fat because they eat too much and exercise too little. There's nothing short term about just eating less and exercising more - in fact it can be as long term as your entire life. It's pretty simple really. The stuff about balanced diets is all very well, but ultimately you can eat a very balanced diet with exactly the right ratio between each food group and still put on weight.

Acohol and fast food is the stuff to avoid.
