OMG HOW DO I FIT MY LAPTOP INTO THE NET!!! ARAGGAGH

Reply 2

Oh do shut up Kingers.
You use the cable which is provided.

Reply 3

Yeah in most colleges you'l be provided with a cable in your room. And when you plug it in and turn on your computer there will be on-screen instructions which will guide you through the process of connecting to the internet. Its actually suprisingly simple, so don't worry:smile:

Ah tastey, that'll do fine =)

Thanks, and my God it's nearly 3AM, night!

Good night!

Reply 8

the word "statistics" being used to describe the features of something always seems somehow very wrong to me

Reply 9

in a shared room are there two points for connection? and also...slightly off topic- how likely is it that there will be a tv point, ie for an external aerial?!

Reply 10

Is there a bandwidth limit? My brother's uni only lets him use a maximum of ~3GB a day internally, and ~500mb externally, and was wondering if the set-up at Durham was similar?

Reply 11

lol seriously i had not actually thought about how i would fit my laptop up, i wasnt being sarcastic or anything, i thought it might be wiireless

Reply 12

What, in every room in the whle university?
And no, no bandwidth limit. But if you use an insane amount ITS might get suspicious...

Reply 13

tv point? I've never seen one in a college bedroom...mind you I can't remember seeing many tvs in college rooms either. don't bother bring one. you will never watch it.

Reply 14

but.. but.. what about dragons den and top gear :frown:

Reply 15

?dragons den?

I did not have one in my first year in my college bedroom.

In my second year I bought a house in Durham and moved in permanently. I do have a TV, but it is rarely turned on. I maybe use it once or twice a week to watch films with friends.

There are far more interesting things to do during term than sit in your room watching a little plastic box

Reply 16

yeh but watching tv is an easier alternative to trying to fit in. Im not the most sociable person. well, actually no im quite sociable; just not likeable

Reply 17

my room in hildbede was fairly small and a tv would have taken up half the desk.

if you really want to bring a tv, use up loads of room, go to the expense of a license and then sit in your room all by yourself each night no one will stop you. I'm just saying I wouldn't bother bring one

Reply 18

You can watch Dragons Den on the bbc2 website. It's ace.

I'm bringing a tv for my room this year but that's because I'm living with 3 girls and I want to watch match of the day from time to time.
