Do/did your teachers wear gowns?

Mine do a lot! I was wondering whether it's quite a widely practiced tradition still or not.

I feel like I need to get this off my chest without sounding as though I am trying to have a go at someone.
I go to a school where the teachers wear gowns, there is also a chapel, we have houses, founders day, a strange uniform system, quads, a dining room, the list goes on, but every time any of these things come up in conversation it is almost guaranteed that somebody will make a comment with some sort of reference to Hogwarts.
I know it isn't meant to be offensive or derogatory or anything like that, but you really don't understand how bloody annoying it is. If every time you spoke about your school somebody made an allusion to a fictional school for bloody magicians imagine how irritated you would be.
I don't go around telling people from comprehensive schools that they go to Waterloo Road or informing someone at a girls school that they must be at St Trinians. Please just don't do it.
Seriously, it is one the single most annoying things ever.
Hogwarts can just p**s right off!

Only the head and deputy head, when we go to chapel at the end of term. But I think they'd look cooler in gowns.

You can't make a thread asking if people's teachers wear gowns and then throw a hissy fit when there's an expected Hogwarts reference. Teachers gliding around in gown things like Snape on a mission is completely foreign to a lot of people, they're going to relate it to something they know.

(Yes I thought of Hogwarts)

At morning assembly they did. And for prize day/church services they used to wear their hoods and PhD lapel type things in addition to that which is pretty cool.

(Left school 2 years ago, but I assume it's still the same)

I'm just voicing my anger. I'm sure I could make a lot of comparisons between people's schools and some very unpleasant things but I don't.
I know it is never going to change and not many people mean to be nasty by saying it, but I just want people to understand how bloody irritating it is.
