Khan Academy has a few useful videos covering the basic stuff about atoms and the periodic table. Most of it is relatively good, and covers the majority of A-level concepts I think, which is the sort of grounding you need. Chemguide usually has concepts fairly well explained, targeted at A-level.

I imagine it works well in conjunction with a text book, so maybe the book you already have? I haven't used/heard of that book so I have no idea how good it is/what level it is pitched at.

I don't think you need the GCSE book. You can probably get a lot of that information on stuff like BBC Bitesize/rest of the internet without too much problem.
