Bailey or Hill?

Just out of interest, where does everyone think its best to live-one of the bailey colleges or one of the hill colleges? Also, reading through all the threads everyone always says what the worst college is, but what do people think the best college is? Im going to Trevelyan which i thinks great anyway, but just wanted to know peoples thoughts.

When I visited Durham, I was glad that I'd applied to a non-bailey college (Mary's), even though I hadn't actually known there was a difference when I was applying.
The bailey colleges all seemed a bit squished together, and the hill colleges felt much more spacious and apart from the crowded centre of Durham - at least this was the impression I got. I absolutely loved Mary's location. It felt separate and quiet, and yet walking there from town wasn't that far at all - I could easily imagine myself "coming home" to Mary's. It had a lovely view, and yet I don't remember ever having to climb a hill, and Mary's actual buildings were really pretty too (well, the older one was anyway).

(can't wait, can't wait, can't wait  !)

Bailey, bailey, bailey all the way. It's very central, and close to town. Cuths is far and away the best college by far. People in hill colleges seem to be more liberal thinking though, less rah, but the location of the bailey is better, and it has Cuths, the best college (society) ever!!

If you're doin sciences - hill, if otherwise bailey, both have good and bad colleges

I loved Cuths, but unfortunately you stand a chance of being given accommodation in the converted old peoples' home about two miles down the road for your first year. My friend went to cuths and was given aforementioned accommodation. Needless to say he is no longer at the University of Durham

Hill! Collingwood!

If however, you want to go for a Bailey then go for Castle.

Though you might end up in the bedsits next door, rather than the Castle itself... I've heard horror stories about them.
Aidan's rocks, not only is it the most laid back college but by October it will have the newest facilities in Durham

i would have to disagree on the basis that collingwood is by far the best. The calibre of people are the highest in durham (laid back, non dkheads). overall tho, most of the hill colleges are decent. when you starting going down the bailey route, you can experience rah after rah. i would advise against settlement in a bailey college.

No shared rooms at Mildert. Deciding factor for me, had I had any choice.

I think I'm going to have to share a room for a term...I don't really mind though - it might be good fun(?) *grin*
