Will I get pressured at Uni?

I applied for a bunch of jobs throughout the summer to supplement my own savings, but didn't get one of them, and I didn't apply for a maintenance loan as I already recieved a grant to cover my accommodation.

Anyway, I'll be living on a very modest budget at Uni of about £25 a week, but for Fresher's Week my budget allows about £40-50.

I'm good with money and such, and I've managed to eat quite comfortably on about £10-15 a week before. My problem is this: will people be offended if I don't come out with them all the time due to being on a budget? £40-50 is enough in Fresher's Week surely to go out for drinks for a few nights, yet I hope my flatmates don't think I'm antisocial if I say I can't come out all the time as I'll have no cash. And I hope they don't pressure me into coming out or anything and then having to live on even less each week. I wouldn't want my relationship with my flatmates to suffer as a result of this.

Hopefully it'll become a non-event if I can get a job at the Uni, but I just like to prepare for a worst case scenario. My friend said at his Uni, he's spent £150 since Saturday, and I was pretty shocked.

Thanks. I think I just need my nerves calmed, really.

Im afraid if you dont go out each and every night they will shun you. 'Tis the freshers ritual, you'll be ridiculed for the next 3 years because you didnt get drunk every night for a week.

Or in other words, it probably wont matter that much.

You can always go out without having to drink. It's not a rule that you've got to get plastered each time you go out.

yep. loads of ppl i know go outr without drinking. they all think its rearlly funny because we all dance like pricks when were lashed!

another option (the one i would take) is to buy a home brewing kit and make your own "moonshine". my mate did this - it tasted like paintstripper, but 1 pint of it would completley **** you over! even if you didn't want to drink it you could probably sell it and amke a good profit. my mate sold it for £4 for 2 litres -great deal

i find getting souped up on sugar makes the world of difference. Just keep drinking lemonade and you'll get hyper as! And NO hangover!

I guess there are more people around who should be watching their money, but maybe they aren't doing just that. Or else they are telling big stories about how much they drunk and spent?

Get a job when you're at uni.

There's no way you couldn't get a job from May-September.
