I don't know how you people define 'geek' but the way I think that you're going on about it is like those geeks on the american films..etc

Anyway...I'm not attracted to lads who are arrogant because they're so 'clever'. I like someone with a nice personality, who I can hold an intelligent conversation with. Personally, I like lads who are shy, smile loads and who are comfortable to be around with. I'm not,however... a fan of lads who think they're so good and boast on about how many girls they have slept with or how many girls fancy them...it's like... come on get a grip and pop that inflated head of yours...*shudders* It depends on different people, I prefer getting to know them first than judging at first sight.

a geek is someone with a specialist knowledge of an often small and wierd field

I think geeky guys are hot. All the guys I like the most are pretty geeky...but then my friends do think my taste in men is weird. Intelligence is such an attractive quality. As for clothes, I don't care that much tbh. Glasses give guys a cute intellectual look

Blazer and shirt is a good look? Hmmm... *points at profile* :p:

well, I am in second year now! It troubles me when I see everyone else getting into relationships. Feeling left out :frown: It's even more disturbing when I get a lot of attention looking a certain way, then when I just look "normal" - just wtf! (I can't look that bad can I?)

I guess I am scared about carrying the "give it time mentality", because this could just be repetitive; as before I know it I would be in third year moaning on the studentroonm.co.uk about exactly this topic. (my worse fear)

It would be a lot easier if I didn't get attention at all, but going from one extreme to the other depending on my dress sense is a complete joke which provoked me to start such a thread in a first place.

Lol well if you get more attention when you change your look and you like this look, stick with it! Then you will get girls and boys alike charging to your door :p: xxx

hear, hear

the player is here

to make our moneybags tear

and leave us guys nothing but a hole in the bag and lots of tear

:p:

(no offense to you, but it seems like you're gonna be using guys like that... for commitment and attention)

Noooo lol sorry if I gave you that impression :p: I want a guy I can talk to and who will make me angry and have arguments/debates with lol. But hey if he happened to be rich and committed, I wouldn't say no :p: xxx

Geek chic is my fave look. I love Geeky boys! My only advice is to wear what you feel comfortable in...and then act as if you feel amazing in it. I am convinced that self confidence is far more attractive than the actual clothes you are wearing...not arrogance, just self-confidence. If I feel good about myself (even if I am just in scruffy clothes) I attract much more attention than when I am all dolled up and feeling miserable.

Geek chic is used to describe attractive people dressed up in glasses wearing tailored clothes.

In my book, geek chic is an attractive guy who is intelligent...glasses dont have to figure!

If they have a Seth Cohen level of geekiness I tend to think it's very cute and attractive.Any more and it's a bit much for me.

Reply 51

geek isn't star trek fan; that's how you define 'loser.' Geek is engineering/physics/economics student with lots of work and will outearn you by a long shot. Women should go for geeks en masse in a kind of implicit prostitution.

The O.C. has made geeks popular.

Yeah, I'd have to be anonymous to admit to watching that, too.

No, a geek is someone who's into geeky stuff - maybe they like reading, or poetry, or video games or films, or they're really into music. Geeks like reading BBC news or Wikipedia, and know lots of useless trivia.

When someone's so into a really specialist field that they find it trouble having conversations about anything else, then they're a nerd. I've known people who've been video game nerds, or music nerds - I've even known someone who is a medieval coin nerd. Nerds are a much bigger pain in the ass to talk to than geeks are.

Being a geek doesn't stop you being attractive, as long as you realise that not everyone's into the same things as you, and you can make the effort to look nice when you want to. For guys this generally just means not having a crappy haircut, and putting on some shoes, smart jeans and a collared t-shirt or a shirt.

I've chatted up girls in bars by talking about American literature, Nietzschean philosophy or Japanese bands before. It's just a matter of knowing when a conversation's going somewhere and when it's a dead end.

Flaunt what you got... I know the geekiness thing, and I don't hide it too much. I have a confident outgoing personality and it gets me pretty far. While I'm not exactly atractive, I just hope that someone will find me a nice enough guy and appreciate me for who I am. Meh....>.<

Well I am an attractive guy; just not when I am geeky; I look like your typical mathematician there. so it saddens me :frown:

When did Mathematics become geeky?

Its the hardest thing, and for someone who is good at it, i think it is extremely kool thing to have.

Might be worth investing in some less geeky glasses, because obviously you can't wear contact lenses all the time. You can get some nice ones which give you that cool-intelligent look. Fila do some cool ones, as do other designer brands. Don't be afraid of the cost - it's a good investment.

i dont think geeks like seth cohen exist in the real world..

As a mathematician, I'd be more inclined to describe those with a penchant for mathematics as nerds. Geek usually doesn't imply anthing academic, and often applies to those with bizarre interests in trivial fields (star wars being the obvious example), whereas nerd is a term more associated with those who are actually sucessful or interested in a more important field - typically maths, computing and science. I'd describe myself as a nerd, but not a geek.

As for the issue with glasses, I can state quite confidently that merely wearing glasses will not damage your chances with most girls, as long as you're wearing glasses that look good on you.

Exactly. I pride the fact that I am good at it. I enjoy doing it.

As someone said, I spose its 'nerdy' rather then 'geeky' (though I was always under he illusion that nerdiness was a term to describe comp scientists)...anyway, yes it is true, gals I have met anyway like intelligent guys generally, but will only show a nerd interest if he is looking quite good (i.e. not like a typical nerd). That is the problem.
