More likely they aren't in the mood or its a bit-too-close to home. I wouldn't date someone on my course/ in my college (collegiate uni), and a lot of people avoid this as it gets messy. Or maybe you are too subtle, and they assume you're intentions are platonic.

Loads of reasons other than looking different.

Well, seeing that there aren't many gals on my course, I shouldn't see why the above should be a problem if I am meeting them constantly through mates. Plus uni is a big place, v different to college, people are always getting together.

I am as subtle as my night outs. I guess I am just myself, I don't always flirt. Like ok I was trying to refrain from saying this cos I dont want to come across as an egotistical **** here. Other times I have been out dressed up, gals have come upto me and asked if I could kiss them on various occasions; I don't get any of this BS if I am just meeting them dressed up normally going clubbing, let alone lectures. the attention I get is very different, it's very hard to explain.

They overlap in the area of logic, which is vital to both philosophy and mathematics. It wouldn't be unusual for a philosopher and a mathematician to be taking the same course in formal logic. There's also philosophy of mathematics (as opposed to mathematical philosophy... aka formal logic) which is a large subject that has been considered by everyone from Plato to Descartes to Russell.

There's not much overlap apart from that. I'd say most mathematics students go through their entire degree without studying either formal logic or philosophy of mathematics, and most philosophy students don't think about too much mathematics.

I'd say there's a fair amount of formal logic required implicitly through the emphasis on thorough proofs. The formal logic also overlaps with any discipline concerning information processing and nobody would link microprocessor design to philosophy.

do you go different places? Do you go later out when you they are less drunk?

When I said college I meant because I am going to a collegiate university. I have no idea why anyone would ever go up to a random guy and ask him for a kiss. I wouldn't even do that to Hugh Grant/Colin Firth, and I don't know ANYONE who would either. I think maybe the answer is that the stupid slutty girls arent in your uni.

Yeah, you guys are geeks.

I don't understand why you're surprised that girls are more attracted to you when you look better. Can you honestly say that looks don't matter to you in a girl?

I am suprised because I can't believe that they can't see beyond the "Clark Kent" effect.

Do you not see a difference between a girl thats just woken up, with no make up on, and one thats ready for a night out, dressed up and with make up on? Same principle.

I know  I just thought when that happened like "what the hell, talk about randomness". All I remember saying when drunk at the time was "hey hows it going, having a good night?", she was like "yeah its good, hows yours been?", then I said "very good, could be better if you bought me a drink?" ; then she goes onto say "can I kiss you?"..At this point I was like "what the hell!, I have known you for less then two minutes and you want a kiss?"

Same places. The irony is the places I go to are the same places that half the gals I would probably see around uni go to as well.

I.E.

Student bars....Clubs etc.

You're probably getting a healthy amount of action from going out and getting hit on. If you wanted intellectual stimulation in the meantime you'd read a book, right?

Well, you could PM m a nerd pic and a going out pic, and I'll give you a verdict. But that would kind of ruin your anonymity.

I'd say it was probably down to drunkeness or a dare.

True, to me it does not matter much because I can just picture how good the gal will look if she made an effort.

For example, theres one gal I know that I have a really big crush on who looks like she has just got out of bed tho ; I dunno if she fancies me - oh well.

maybe your problem is saying gal. Maybe they don't hear you say that at night.

Reply 94

I think it makes a lot more difference with women than men anyway, since they don't put on makeup.

Yeah I surpose. But I just get really irritated when I do get attention (although it happens a fair amount; it does not happen week in and week out) because I am not interested in one night stands, rather I am really keen on being in a relationship now.

Reply 98

I want to know what you look like when you go out. Also I admitted to finding it difficult to meet girls in everyday situations but not at night, and I really didn't feel the need to hide my identity!
