Well in all honesty mate i would just phone up these companies and ask them. I am getting sponsored by corus (only because my dad works there) and they are paying all my fees whether it be tuition or maintainance, and i end up working for them for a few years at least and i can expect to be earning anything between 22-25 k per year depending on my degree classification. I hope that helps you a bit mate.

Hi there, I'm on deffered entry for nottingham uni to start next year, was wondering if you guys can help me with information about the following companies? Specifically I'm looking to find out what:
-Support you get through uni (ie liasons with the firm's staff),
-Graduate Salaries and amount of uni sponsorship
-Help/structured plan towards becoming chartered
-Benefits such as payments towards pension scheme etc
-Opportunities to work on large projects

The companies I'm interested in are:
skanska
Taylor woodrow
laing o'rourke
mace
tarmac
HBG
Carrillion
costain
bovis
balfour beatty

Thanks
Hamish

Hi, to be honest I don't think anyone is going to give you a complete list of details for those compaines, that's your job. The details are probably on the web, or ring them yourself. I know that Skanska do sponsor students to the region of £500 a term.

Most companies offer a structured plan towards becoming chartered, benefits like pension schemess and depending on the size of the company, opportunities to work on large projects

It's quite hard to get sponsorship, often harder than a real job, so apply early and brush up your CV. Saying that, if you're not even at Uni yet it might be worth waiting till you know for sure you'll be going into Civil before you sign your life away. Also, you might really enjoy the design side of things - you don't seem to be looking at consultant engineers...

There is a QUEST sponsership scheme thing . they sponser students and give you summer work placement at civil engineering companies. The number they give out if limited, so yeah you could try that but its not 100% you will get it.

As for your deffered entry, you should have planned your gap year in advance, most of the pre uni placement are taken already e.g ARUP .

I have an interview for Talyor Woodrow coming up for a pre university industry placement. I am very very lucky to actually get this interview. I know they sponser students do their degree course (related to construction) and are part ofo the QUEST scheme.

I applied for work experience for HBG but they haven't replied to me.

To be honest, the Quest thing is fairly unproductive but give it a go.

The best thing to do for you is to apply on mass and chase up every application. Are you planning on doing it this year?!

Are these questions for me?
No, no. I haven't applied for QUEST, I was just advising the guy above as he wanted sponsership.

The Taylow Woodrow thing is through yini and yes, I am planning to work with them for a whole year (if I get it)
