Im going to go by a student loan, but was also wondering with that... do i have to pay some sort of start up fee to start uni? If i do, how much would it have to be?

Matthew

No. If you are paying you tuition fees by loans from the student loan company you do not pay the UNI anything directly for this yourself.

You may, however, have to pay an acommodation fee up front, but usually there are options to do it term by term, and not all at once if you don't want to. Also, they will give you time to get the money (i.e: from other loans/grants). So they may not take/want the first payment for a few weeks after you start uni.

Ok thanks. Just another question.

How does the whole paying the fee work here? (im from america).

This fee you say, i have to pay after a few weeks is what exactly? How often do i have to make this type of payment?

You may have to pay a one-off deposit for your accommodation, but as someone said above, the student loan people will make the payments to your university.

Over here assuming you will pay with loans/grants it goes like this:

We have a tuition fee (yearly) for going to uni. For national students its £3,000 - for internationals it can be up to 3-5+x this. We use our loans to pay it. We don't get the money, the student loan company gives the money directly to the university (we simply provide the uni with the details [on a letter] for them so they can contact the student loan company for the money).

This needs to be done each year (by 'enrolling' each year). I am sure each uni has this, I doubt any uni only requires you to enrol once, but some may.

Accommodation will vary for each university. But I will assume every university gives you the option to pay termly or yearly (I don't think any would actually do weekly payments - some may do monthly though). This is paid for by YOU. Students also get a living loan, and this money is paid into their bank account to spend as they choose. Most will then use this money to pay for their accommodation. Students will give the uni their payment details (for a termly/monthly direct debit) or pay with credit/debit card/check.

This needs to be paid every period you agree on. If you do terms, then we have 3 terms, so it would be 3 payments throughout the year.

It is the accommodation fee most people can pay a few weeks after starting as it is money coming from their own bank - so the uni has to give adequate time for the student loan company to pay it into our bank, so we can then pay the uni! But most unis will have you sort out how you will pay for this, and to give them the details for payment, at the start or before you arrive at uni.

Thanks, that cleared up everything.
