Interview with HSBC and Halifax

Hey guys I've got 2 telephone interviews today with these banks for being a customer adviser.

Anyone had any experience? Got any tips?

I have looked through the job interview tips page and answered the questions.

However with HSBC they say they will ask questions on key skills such as

'The key skills for each Customer Sales roles are:- sales, customer service, teamwork, work standards and communication.'

What king of Questions are these?

I'm at another bank and they tend to ask very specific questions such as tell us a time when you have effectively led a team, when have you had to deal with change in the workplace etc, but you need to make sure you give specific examples and ask questions yourself. they should then offer you a face to face interview with a manager when you will have an even more in depth interview. just don't try and prepare, be yourself.

Research on the company and what the job requires from you. Just try practicing over the telephone with a friend or family or tape record to see how you sound on the phone. Have a pen and paper ready for any note taking etc. Make sure that the room your in is quiet and free of noise.

Though it is important that you speak in a clear tone and you must sound polite. Personally having a telephone interview is so much easier then having one face to face.

i've just had a phone interview (telescreening) with HBOS.
they start by asking some quite simple maths questions (you're allowed a calculator), then go on to the competency questions as in a normal interview.
examples of questions include:

Why do you want to work for HBOS?
What do you think would be most challenging about the job?
how would you deal with customers face to face?
can you give an example of either when you've given good customer service if you've done face to face stuff before, or if not, when you've received good customer service?
can you give an example of any targets you've had in a previous job and how you did?

hope this helps x

hey there !!

Dont worry about the telephone interview it was fine obviously you are going to be nervous but the maths question are farley easy you will be fine at it just make sure u have a pen and paper at the ready and you will be fine.

e.g if a costmer is going to cash in a cheque for 120 pounds and then pays 66 pounds of thier card and pays 170 in cash how much will that totol to

* if a costmer wants to pay 600 in cash Then a costmer takes out 70 then 50 ho much would it leave in your till

stuff like that hope this helps ya all the best x:smile:

I have just had a telephone interview for halifax customer advisor.

didnt do very well as the questions i found on the internet werent the same as what she asked :frown:

she asked what would i find most challenging about the role and what would be least challenging for me

when ive had to meet sales targets individually and as part of a group and how many sales did i make on a daily or weekly basis.

what i did to make the sale and how would i promote the services.

an example of where I went above and beyond for a customer in a stress situation and what was the problem that I over come.

no maths questions but that is probably because you have to do a maths test online first now.

she asked what would I bring to the role.

First question was what do I know about the role and what do I think they expect me to do, basically reciting the job description which is short thankfully.

Well maybe knowing the questions will get someone a job even if i dont get it

however if she had asked me the strengths weaknesses last role skills questions i would have passed with flying colours lol

ahh lool feedy i got rejected but sure i can help u

the interview is quite simple u will have ur Branch manger and the Area manager thr , its competency based interview divided in stages : team work, targets/ selling , risk avoidance

questions were a situation where you were a part of the team and there was a change in sum company policies , how did u handld tht as a part of team , wat role u playd , wat was the effect on others , result of it !!

a situation where tough targets were to be achieved , what did u do ? how ? how did u do better than others ?

a situation in which u made sum mistake , what was the situation , what was the outcome ? how did u resolved ? wat did u learned

from recent job - what are the risks involved in it , how do u pay attention to that and follow the procedures.

i think that was it !!

best to luck to u

Funny thing today i got another rejection email from another bank, this time HSBC. What's funny about this is that my personality profile fits the job perfectly but i have a 20 minute phone interview with a nervous chap. Now this fella is too dumb for words, but sufficed to say if i had the interview with the branch manager i would of got the job. I am not being arrogant i had done a similar job before, but because the dude could not even spell i missed out on a good chance.

shame really that they let dumb people interview uni grads.
