Interview with HSBC and Halifax

Hi.
I had one last week, it lasted about 45 mins, just a straight interview. They asked questions really similar to the phone interview really just why HSBC/cashier, then a load of competancies. Then if your educational/work background is in a different area they'll ask why you've changed your mind.

That was it so nothing too stressful. Where is your interview?

Hi,

I had a telephone interview with HBOS yesterday and just wanted to share my experience.

The questions were more or less the same, as written in above posts. The difference was, the guy on the phone was very irate and annoying.
He asked me why do I think I am suitable for the role. I started speaking and he interrupted me - "sorry, but we have a time limit and there is another question about the skills, so please tell me why you are suitable for this role and not talk about not relevant information"
Ok, I continued.
Then another question - tell me about your biggest achievement.
I started telling him about a project I accomplished. Again - "can you come to the point, we have no time for all these details"

He interrupted me several times and asked me to keep it short. He was saying "ok, next questions is..." before I finish my answer.

I took several telephone interviews and passed most of them. I never saw such an attitude. In the end, I am called to answer the questions, how can I know what will be the next question and if I am supposed to include a particular information or not? It was just rude and annoying.
The night before the interview I have read some comments about the company culture, but I thought these might be individual opinions. Honestly I was surprised to see how the attitude of the recruiter matched these comments.

I am glad I did not get the job.

Regards,
Liza

I just had my telephone interview for customer advisor and I thought to share it with you all

The person was pleasant and asked me first to describe what I understant by the role and why I wanted to apply for the role and the bank?

Second question was What would I bring to the role.

then I was asked where would I like to lead through this role
then questions were on sales drive so questions like when I went above and beyond for a customer in a stress situation and what was the problem that I over come
what i did to make the sale and how would i promote the services.
as i did not have sales related experience but gave an example of other situation - i was asked how would I relate this to sales.

Then Was asked if I have any questions and was told that numerical tests are not done on telephone anymore but they are done online

The person was really pleasant and explained me what was going on and what he was going to go through etc..

Hopefully this will help and I hope I pass the interview:smile:

Hi, in response to the last post

I recently had a telephone interview with 'Halifax' I received the same Email saying I was successful yet no one contacted me for 2 weeks also. I rang their recruitment line and was informed that the halifax recruitment system had been scraped and replaced with the Lloyds system so I would have to re-apply!!!! So if I was you I would ring Halifax if you haven't heard from them yet

I was annoyed to say the least but did this, subsequently i passed the telephone interview (for the 2nd time) and am now attending a selection event on the 25th......the position isfor a customer service advisor...if anyone has any info or experience in one of these events PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you

Let me give you a heads up, these so called entry level jobs are fake & they don't exist. You will most likely be wasting your time going to an assessment centre as the place is filled with false hope. Do yourself justice and don't expect to pass it but simply try your best. There is a good chance that someone that they know (Networking friend) has been selected for the position so if they tell you sorry, just think to yourself they missed a good chance & then hold your head up.

Good Luck.

Hi,

Just replying to Shaan1984's post - I attended an assessment day in Dundee last Wednesday (I passed my telephone interview on Dec 20th).

I was nervous, as being self employed for the last 8 years I've forgotten how to do interviews! I met a few other candidates, and everyone seemed pleasant. We were given a small presentation, and then the group was divided to do the role play exercise or the interview.

I started with the role play, and I thought I had done terrible at this! There was a lot of info to digest in 10 minutes but it's actually quite simple - customer was upset she didn't recieve debit card so you help her, then offer a personal loan to cover her cost.

The interview was straightforward, just a face to face version of the telephone interview.

Chat to the other candidates, dress smart and smile - you should be fine! Let us know how you get on :-)

hi dr_bogenbroom!!

Hope you are well!

I have a selection event coming up soon too. I was wondering if you elaborate on your experience on the day. What sort of questions were asked in the face to face interview- was it the standard - Why do you want to work for us? What attracts you to Halifax etc.

I would greatly appreciate your help!!

Many Thanks

Hi harshil86,

Just to clarify to everyone I'm not a real doctor LOL :-)

Yeah sure - the face to face interview was quite relaxed to be honest. I was expecting to be in a room with 3 people asking me questions, but the lady was very friendly and just sat me down in the actual call centre area and asked me similar questions to the telephone interview.

One question was subjected around 'how you would assist a colleague who was upset with an angry customer' and 'can you provide examples of hitting sales targets and how you achieved them'.

Be very clear on why you want to work for them - I feel they are big on amibition and people who want to progress their careers (even if it's just a stop gap job, don't mention this).

Where is you selection event?

Hi I had my selection event which is just an interview with brance manager and other taking notes. i was told they interviewing for the whole region and i was asked if i could consider other locations. no telephone interview just 4 online assesmentthe question are very similar here just focus on sales and why you want to work for halifax. The manager asked me if i would consider other locations . After 14days waiting i got a call from a different brance manager in halifax and asking me to come and see him and confirmation that the manager who interviewed me gave him my details. I ranged recuirtment team they said is good news and i might base on that brance so am hoping i have got the job in that branch as 2 interview just seems lame. Anyone with my experience or knows what this mean?

Hi Guys,
I dont even no where to begin.... Last year I passed all the stages and told i was succesfull as banking advisor and would be informed of a start date, then i was told there was no vacancies and would have to wait until one came up, when one did come up it was already monthssss later so my old application was therefore out of date as it had then merged with lloyds banking group, i then had to reapply and have passed all the online assesments (now 3), i have my assesment interview coming up (Again) - just shows how much i really want the job going through the whole process twice! Heres fingers crossed im succesful!

Anyone have experience of interviews with Lloyds TSB?

Do they conduct telephone interviews?

edit;

since posting this I received the following email

Thank you for your continued interest in joining Lloyds Banking Group and completing your application form to date.

We would like to invite you to an event to further assess your suitability for the role.

Your application has been placed on hold until such an event date becomes available and we will contact you accordingly.

Hi Everyone,

I first began applying for a customer advisor role in Halifax in March of 2010, It is a very long process! I passed the numerical & knowledge tests in March, had a telephone interview in June and then had a start date in August, so 5 months start to finish, definitely worth waiting for though, The basic salary isn't amazing but about to receive a £4000 bonus for the quarter!, Motivation is very high and training is comprehensive. Also lots of opportunities to develop and move into more challenging roles. In the short time ( 6 months ) that I've been on their books it's been an absolute delight.

Best of luck to everyone and I'm more than happy to answer questions for you

Hi guys, I have a face2face interview with Halifax- Customer Adviser role coming up and its an hour an a half long apparently.

Has anyone had this? Also, what questions am I likely to be asked in the interview and also what is the role play like, if there is any? Do I have t do a numerical test again even though I did it online?

Your help is much appreciated.

Hey guys, I'm a bit confused. I applied to Halifax Customer Advisor role but the emails come from careers@ lloydsbankinggroup.com.

Does that mean that in the interview, I will asked questions to do with Lloyds as well as Halifax???
