HELP! My Dog Is Ill! [Very]

He has lumps all over his body and down his spine and the top of his tail (where it connects to his body) is very tender and the fur there is malted a bit (thinner). It was only that the other day but now he has lumps everywhere and can't sit down properly.

I'm taking him to the vet in an hour but wondered if anyone had any idea what the problem is? The lumps are only small but if you press down on him you can feel them and there are a few of them.

Help please, I'm worried and my dog is in pain.

I never knew "Health and Relationships" referred to those of pets as well. :\

Im sure the vet will be able to sort it out for you. Hope everything goes ok.

Stop being cruel, he wants some help. And why shouldn't it have anthing to do with animals as well?

This is about HEALTH...and anyway I didnt want to post it in General and get it deleted because I'm worried.

He's only 6 months old and he ate a bit of chocolate the other night (he stole it and chewed it open) but I checked and he doesn't have the symptoms of chocotoxicity.

I cant see it would be anything to do with the chocolate- unless perhaps its an allergic reaction? My puppy stole some chocolate a few weeks back but I dont recall him having anything like that happen.

It might be a skin condition, or cysts of some sort, try not to panic until you've been to the vet.

Is he pedigree? Pedigree dogs are more prone to skin conditions.

It sounds like it might be a bit of mange? My first cocker spaniel, Rosie, had it when we got her from the rescue shelter and she had patchy, itchy fur and lumpy bits all over her.

Another possibilty, when did you last de-flea him? The lumps could be infected flea bites?

It could just be a 'normal' doggy skin condition - what breed is he/she? Might help with a diagnosis...

I really wouldn't worry - the vets will know exactly what to do, and will make him/her as comfortable as poss. I know it's horrible to see your 'baby' suffering, and it's 10000x worse when they can't actually tell you what's wrong with them.

Chin up... *Hug*

PS: BTW, check if he/she has eaten much in the last 24 hours. If appetite is normal, it rules out a lot of conditions. Also, if the vets want to operate soon, they need to know when he/she last ate anything for anaesthetic purposes. Let the vet know about ANY symptom, big or small. (Also worth checking his/her last stool to see if it's any different to usual...)

Yeah I think mange. He was playin with some other dogs yesterday...dogs round here are rife with disease, cos a lot of them are just left outside all the time.

:frown:

Hopefully he'll be okay. It's not so much lumps...now that I've looked. It's like his fur is just messed up...dull and has patches of thinner hair all over and things. Maybe a few lumps...I don't know.

Anyway I'll find out soon. Thanks.

He's a pedigree Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

His appetite is normal and he still likes to play and run around and stuff so he can't be that bad. Also he's not been de-flea'd because apparently he doesn't have them but I think he does, he scratches a lot. Although he was at the vet on Tuesday and the vet didn't say anything so he shouldn't have fleas...he had an inflamed throat then from chewing everything (soil etc)

Tell me about it! Mine steals everything and starts chewing it- hairbrushes, stones out the garden, sellotape; you name it, he'll chew it!

If you think he might have fleas then a flea collar will sort that out quickly. Mine used to scratch a lot too before I put one on him, he's been fine ever since and doesnt scratch anymore.

Hey! Who repped me? I didn't say anything wrong. My dog had exactly the same thing (or it sounds like it). He had cancer. Just because I didn't pat him on the head and say 'there-there everything will be okay'. Small minded ignorant people who don't even have the decency to leave their name.

If a dog starts eating grass it's a sign that their stomach hurts - grass calms their stomachs so if they've got tummy ache then they search it out.

Even if your dog doesn't appear to have fleas you HAVE to de-flea them every few months to prevent any from jumping on and breeding. It's just a few drops on their neck every few months... Not too bad for them.

Also thinking, ringworm can be quite common for staffies - have a look on the Kennel Club website and there will be pictures of what it looks like...

Hope this helps

Really? I didnt know that!

He doesn't eat grass, just everything in the house. And chewing gum off the street.

Haha, my Rosie used to have a bit of a thing for Lego and Scalextric (sp??) cars - cost us a bloody fortune in replacement toys for my younger brother!

Lol, mine will just steal and take anything he can! A few days ago I found him chewing a tampon (unused obviously!), he'd gone into my handbag and stolen it! I think its the thrill of stealing stuff he's not supposed to have that he likes, I dont think he's bothered about what he's chewing!

i love staffies! Wheeee, they are so cute and adorable... when they have the right owner, that is :frown: I hate that people use them for fighting dogs, rar, bad.

Anyway, I hope he's OK because staffies are lovely doggies and shouldn't have to suffer!
