UCL biochemical engineering

Ive asked this many times b4, but have not got good responses.

Where does the course stand against ICL/Oxbridge in terms of prospects.

We know that UCL in general has a high reputation (top 10 in country) but apparently engineering department is like 19th in the country or something.

I don't think the other universities listed offer degrees in biochemical engineering, which is a pretty niche degree... maybe you'd be better off doing something more broad at the undergrad level, e.g. chemical engineering, and specialising later on down the line in biochemical, if it's really your thing?

ok but tbf i do like the biochem niche aspect...just wondering in terms of prospects? and perhaps would it have the same cache as UCL being a target university?

Well I would never seek to discourage someone from doing something that they're genuinely interested in. As long as you're aware that it's not currently a massive area of the engineering industry, and that jobs aren't going to be as plentiful as they are in other disciplines (although the numbers of students seeking said jobs will also be a lot lower) then that's fine.

And to some extent, engineering is engineering, meaning that it is possible to transfer over to disciplines in similar areas; e.g. I would imagine that there is at least some crossover between biochemical and plain chemical engineering. So your job prospects aren't purely limited to biochemical engineering jobs (although not all HR departments may see it that way).

What do you mean by UCL being a "target" university?

hmm...i mean it as a 'target' uni if i do a career in IB or finance...(thus not doing engineering)

Okay, but you'd probably be better off asking about that in the finance or banking forums.

Its an accredited course, and you get CENG status afterwards so it must be good. But I don't know anything in terms of how well its received my students :/

Yes AAA offer  was just a bit worried, aren't we going to be invited to visit the department and like an offer holder day? Was hoping we would be allowed to see and make a decision...
