Speaking as a boatie, we do not like to be seen as accesories! We're people you know!

...
Unless your a Med. student, then its rather important.(1st part of BM?)

Anyway, you'll be fine.

my boatie rather enjoys it methinks.. which boat are you in?

i am sadly a med. student, so Part I of First BM.. though we do get 1 resit opportunity for each paper i think. thank you for reassuring words anyway!

Helenia..aah..that's so soon! i still have a good month & my birthday first thankfully!

although medics (that's a girlie degree too) seem to fall by the wayside... .medics are just scarey here... That said there are a lot of attractive bio nat sci girls.. but they tend to be quite shy and just a smidge geeky.

Am not scary! Yes, we are a little different, and tend to clique together and talk about dissection, but we are capable of normal human interactions as well

There are millions of NatScis, therefore there have to be some attractive ones. Shame about the men in my college. For reference, Clare bridge at sunset/at night is reputedly the most romantic place in Cambridge, though I have to say I was too drunk to appreciate it last time.

Elles, my birthday is in the middle of exams - I have my steeplechase that day. Not fair. But the day after is the final exam, so then birthday party and post-exams celebrations - someone want to book me a bed in Addies now?

Unfortunately there will be a six month waiting list.

I'm in the Balliol VIII. And yes, I know we're crap.

Everyone thinks they did terribly after Prelims, I actually started to prepare for the re-sits, that's how bad I though I did! But very very very few students don't pass either first time, or at the re-sit. Just put the revision in and you'll be fine.

Ok... Well, as said before Oxonians aren't known for their beauty. But, in general art students or more attractive than scientists. The best subjects (in my experience) are English Lit & Lang, Modern History and Politics, and Music. The worst; PPE, Chemistry, Medicine and A&A. The best college is New College, by an absolute mile! And the worst are Merton, St. John's, Exeter (welsh!!!) and Balliol.

And a hint - If you want to fall in love and have wonderful orgasmic sex, Oxford isn’t the place for you.

Pfffftt... alright for some, think you do badly and actually become a scholar. I thought I absolutely rocked the papers, especially Management - and got a third in Management.
I was certain I'd failed Philosophy, absolutely positive, I had prepared myself to do the re-sit. I'm terrible at predicting exams in general though, and when you walk out of the exam school and people ask you how well its gone, its a lot easier to say "I did badly" than "I'm not sure."

That's how everyone was at my college anyway, maybe it's got something to do with the academic pressure, everyone thinks they’re the worse so expects to fail. I don't know what it was like at the Turf Street colleges, being an outsider and all.

And strangely enough one of my friends had the exact same funny little pink chest of drawers. But I think her's was green.

TURF STREET!?

I can't speak for Jesus, but Exeter and Lincoln are very relaxed, there's really no pressure at all here.

Throughout my first year, I was very good at predicting my essay marks - almost always to within two marks - and generally guessed my collection results reasonably well. Then in Management Prelims I thought I'd done really well and was very happy with the paper, thought I'd got a first. Came out with a 49. Argh. Still managed a 2:1 overall though.

Sorry, Turl Street... Contecting the High Street and Broad Street. It's not like it's a million miles away, just over the road in fact. I used to walk down it everyday to get too the Philosophy Centre.

I've given up on predicting essays. I can't do it, somepeople are really good at it and can get it within a couple of marks for the entire 3 years, but it's an achievement for me if I can get within 2 grades. I just do the exams and hope for the best.
Given you're a scholar, just predict you'll get a first every time, and most of the time you'll be right

I found that the papers I always expected to have gone well didn't turn out as well as I thought, and the ones I thought I'd done badly in tended to turn out better. It seemed quite hard to predict exactly what examiners where looking for - there was even one paper I thought I'd got at least a good 2:1 in, but actually got a mid-range 3rd.

Or is that just your personal experience?

We did something about this a while ago, Oxford is officially (well, semi-officially) the least sexed university in Britain. And Oxford terms are so short that when you take away the time you would need for work and extra curricular stuff; there isn't much left to mingle with the opposite sex.

I never came to university looking for love. There was a famous moment when a girl I was affiliated with complained that we weren't spending enough time together, so she gave me a ultimatum; her or Varian..... I'm still doing Economics and we haven't seen each other for a couple of years.

Given you're a scholar, just predict you'll get a first every time, and most of the time you'll be right

I wish I had your confidence....

Ah, but the two don't go hand in hand. And it's perfectly possible to do the first.

But most (massive generalisation) students care more about the latter.

after just seeing the thread in the cambridge forum, im wondering! what are the girls at oxford like? that is my only worry about going to be honest, everything else seems perfect. When i went to my interviews, to be blunt the talent was very slim (read non-existent); i put this down to it being science week of the interviews... So what are the girls like ppl?! am i right to be relying on the arts or is it looking bleak?

There's a lot of easy ho's in Oxford. But some of them are butters. Just stick to Oxford Brookes girls.
