Hi I just made this..

So let me explain my story without this sounding pretentious lmao. In high school I kinda super messed around and being popular and all of that was more important than my grades but genuinely had the ability to do better anyway I came out with average grades and stuff. I study Level 3 Travel and Tourism BTEC at college because they wouldn't allow me to do A Levels because in my first year of college I dropped out and I apparently didn't have the grades (I used to be a bad idiot ok)

OK so anyway, I'm really hoping to do Human Geography at uni and I'm probably gonna get DDD* will they allow me to do this honestly? Because UCAS isn't always completely accurate about these things and there's a lack of communication from my teachers at college...

Also I'm completely hung up about going to a Russell Group lmao I know it's probably unlikely but University of York say they'll judge on individual basis, what's my chances, honestly please.

Thank you

Good to hear you're doing well at college now, DDD* sounds great
I must admit BTECs aren't ideal for Russell Group unis so probably best not to get your heart set on it. There is hope however! Just saw this on the Russell Group website in the FAQs:

If I choose to study a BTEC can I still go to a Russell Group university?

Some of our universities consider vocational qualifications like BTECs in certain circumstances. However, for many courses they are not considered suitable preparation. Where BTECs are accepted, it is likely that you will be required to achieve very high grades, for example three Distinctions. You may also be required to have studied the BTEC in combination with other qualifications such as A-levels.
Entry requirements vary between courses and between universities. If you intend to study at a Russell Group university we would strongly advise that you carefully check entry requirements online before making your decision to study a BTEC.

So I suppose you should talk to more unis to see what they say about your application, what York said is encouraging though. Just remember, it really isn't the end of the world if you don't end up at a RG uni, there are plenty of other great opportunites. Maybe apply to a couple of RGs and three others? I'm afraid I honestly don't know how good your chances are, so I don't want to give you false hope/crush dreams but I'd talk to the unis directly to get more accurate and helpful feedback.

If I go to a uni that's not Russell Group though, do you know if they'll still let me do Human Geography? It says related course and I think they're kinda related. I'm scared of getting no offers omg. I wanna do a PGDE after my course but that's kinda irrelevant atm? I accidentally posted this question twice you see and on the other one someone replied saying they think it's unlikely I'll get in ANY UNI with a BTEC for a geography course, now I'm worried!!!

I really think you should talk to some admissions staff to get a fair, realistic idea of your chances. Speculating isn't like this will probably just make you even more worried about it all.. We need some facts and I can't help you there unfortunately. Don't get stressed about it though! I don't if what that other person said is true, but personally I wouldn't have thought that would be the case for all unis. Hope it works out for you

Yeah I kinda decided on what my five choices are gonna be, University of York, Leeds Met, Lancaster, Edge Hill and UCLAN/The University of Northampton (undecided on the last two)... I think I might as well still apply for UOY even though I know I'm unlikely to get in (I have nothing to lose lmao)... I'm hoping I'll get an offer from one of the other ones though, I gave Leeds Met an email to ask whether they see T&T as a 'related subject', fingers crossed!

Thanks for your advice pal seriously

Yeah that sounds like some good choices. Quite right, you've got nothing to lose so go for it, as long as it's not a completely wasted option. Great to hear you're getting in contact with, mine are crossed for you too!
No problem, happy to help
