Hiii! From reading the thread I noticed that quite a few of us are thinking of applying to London South Bank. (Including myself) What is it about the uni that makes you want to apply there?

It really is, when I went to interviews most of the people were applying for child nursing! Yeah there is as not as many jobs- compared to adult where they are much more needed!

Yes defiantly, I volunteered at my local hospital for the past year and volunteered a special needs school! I'm not trying to put you off but just from my experience of applying for child nursing last time!

Also if you want to work abroad, your degree is not recognised compared to adult nursing (i only knew this after I applied). If you still have your heart set on child- go for it but I wish I knew all the information about the child nursing branch of nursing before I applied last year!

Oh wow ! So the child nursing nursing is not recognised abroad ? Do you know why ?

Looks like I've to do more research then

My mum goes to South Bank and is nearly finishing her mental health degree. She told me that it's a great Uni for nursing in general

Also, I spoke to some people who do child nursing there and they said that child nurses get to do a placement at Great Ormond Street Hospital so you get to learn and experience what it's like to work in a children's hospital :biggrin:That's the main reason why I want to apply there. Also, their facilities are quite good.

Wow. It's cute that you and your Mum are going to be Nurses . I have to agree with you. GOSH is one of the reasons why I want to apply as well as the south bank location. A good friend of mine wants to do journalism there and regularly visits south bank and tells me how she felt like she belonged there.
I'm writing my personal statement to apply for adult nursing. But I keep writing about my experiences with working with children, should I apply for children's nursing instead?

Haha thank you. She's told me about what to expect when doing nursing courses and etc.
It's a great opportunity to do a placement at GOSH. My mum was telling me that they do everything they can to help you.
The best thing about the university is that the entry requirements aren't too high so that's great

Ermm....I think that if you want to adult nursing then you should do it
But if you have many experiences working with children then you could consider it.

But follow your heart and do what you think is best

Not 100% sure but I think because Child nursing is very specialised, compared to adult nursing where it is very general. I may be wrong but some countries may just do adult nursing degrees and not offer child nursing, mental health branch of nursing etc! I'm not trying to put you off but I wish i had this information when I applied last year, if your not 100% sure you want to do child, do adult but if your passionate and want to do child; go for it! Hope this helps!

I really really want to do child nursing. I know that to do nursing in another country, I may have to do a conversion course but that's fine honestly. I'll do some research to see what countries do child nursing etc. Thanks for the information though, it's quite helpful
Hey guys, Just wondering where you are all applying for child nursing and/or where you would recommend. I'm trying to finalise by options so I can send off my applications but i'm not 100% on where to choose because I didn't get to as many open days as I wanted. Thank you

Yeah it's a really nice one I have friends there at the moment and they love it!
I have 2 choices now and just need to choose the rest from these four, Chester/Salford/Cardiff and Northumbria.
Would you recommend any of these? x

Hi, I sent off my application form for child nursing yesterday at Edge hill, nottingham, leeds, sheffield hallam and manchester. I don't expect to hear back for a few weeks yet but just wondering if anybody could advise on what to prepare for at interview like questions but also what you're supposed to wear?! Thank you x
I sent off my application a few weeks ago to Nottingham, Surrey, Southampton and cardiff! So scared waiting for replies I'm so nervous

Hi I've applied to Nottingham, Cardiff, UWE, Swansea and Southampton and I have got a reply from Southampton for a selection day. Regarding what to wear I've got a matching skirt suit so just a skirt and blazer then will probably wear a white shirt, tights and black brogues personally I think it looks very professional and it's very unlikely that although it's a physical course that they will ask you to do anything too physical on interview and I think it's always better to be overdressed than too casual. As preparation I am researching current affairs and issues within nursing and the NHS to have a broad knowledge to apply, I'm also nailing a good reason of why I want to be a nurse. I would advise knowing your 6 c's and re-reading your personal statement before the interview to refresh your memory. Just be confident and smiley and you'll be fine. x
