Soz i made a mistake I was wondering if this is really common because I had been told vy my friends that it is really wierd I can't read emotions on peoples faces?

Reply 2

It's not particularly common I don't think. This kid who was in my class since year 7 has it, and yeah he has a hard time reading emotions. He doesn't get when people are joking with him, and thinks that they're being mean. He's also very private and likes his personal space. Once he did throw a padlock at my face, but I overlook that, cos he's a fairly cool kid. Hope that helps. Remember you're in good company...Bill Gates has Aspergers.

I also have Asperger's. It's not common, but it's not especially rare either. It's just something you have to learn to with with. I went to see people about it when I was younger that's helped me deal with it, but I'm at the mild end of the spectrum anyway.

I know a doctor and a medical student who both self diagnosed with aspergers...

Reply 6

Aspergers is another label for someones personality.

Reply 7

Is that your diagnosis then?

Ignoring the research into structural abnormalities in the amygdala and hypocampus.

ooh look at my long words. yeah i know people with aspergers, some are worse than others, i mean if you can have a laugh and a good time what does it matter, people don't need to know and they probably won't care that much u get extra time in exams

I would use shorter words to save you having to think if I could - there aren't any.

Very wise words. Pos rep mate.

I 'have' aspergers. It's a load of *******s, it means nothing.

Only memorable traits were obsessive behaviour as a kid and now.

Taking a few things literally. I remember our first story at school when i was 4, i thought the whole purpose was to repeat the story word by word. I got told off.

I find it had to befriend new people and often take things literally. Some people think i'm arrogant because of this, and the fact i repeat things.

Hyperactive.

People often think i'm unintelligent, yet i do well at exams and have a massive memory.

BUT,

Everyones unique. no one is special. I just see it as part of someone, no one i know is perfect. I don't go around telling people, what's the ****ing point? I can't stand people who label themselves so it makes them feel special. I'm not, nor is anyone.

Also, you can teach yourself how to shield the characteristics.

The condition is meaningless.

So you'd rather that the group of common characteristics isnt given a name? That would make for a rather long winded explanation to each person who asks about your behaviour!

No one has ever commented on my behaviour apart from saying that i'm deep.

Without my memory, the ability to obsess and self teach, i'd be pretty average, just initially quiet.

Everyone's different.

I can control it most of the time. You can teach yourself to act normally.

I know i'll be eternally initially quiet, oh well.

I still have loads of mates.

Only being 20, i've seen it develop/change.

Things get harder in adult life.

Alcohol from my experience is dangerous.

Everyone is different in their own way.

jesus why did people in this thread get so uptight? i have aspergers syndrome myself and believe you me its no picnic. ok i'll agree one of the symptoms of not being able to read faces is quite commonplace, but its not just this, there are many many symptoms associated with it and some people dont have all of them they may only display one or two symptoms because they have mild aspergers. theres a useful site for those who want to know more: http://www.raisingkids.co.uk/fea/fea_10.asp

Reply 17

devilgirl, the symptoms only affect you if you let them.

One thing though, i swear my co-ordination is different everyday. You get any of that?

Some days i'll have trouble walking, and the others i'll be a football legend.

Reply 19
