Questions For people who are/were on a 'forced' Gap Year:

(Btw if you are or were on a unforced gap year but regretting/regretted it, please if you want answer my questions:smile: )

For people who were on a Forced Gap Year:
1: How was it resitting Year12/13 or some of your AS/A2 modules at Home or in Year13? Did you really hate it?
2:h:ow was it seeing all of your friends/Classmates,etc moving on, going to Uni? Did you ever deactivate/stop using Facebook/Snapchat any social media during Freshers week?
3: When you finally got to Uni was it awkward/depressing that the majority of people on your year/new uni friends were a year younger than you? Or did the feeling of being on a forced gap year go away, did you just think oh I'm finally here at uni?
4: Was it sad seeing second year uni students thinking that should be you? Or did you not care?
5: if you were resitting at home What did you actually do in your gap year? Did you travel?
6: After the First year of Uni and completing the second and third year( or four in some cases) did the feeling of you were 'forced to take a year out' go away? Did you not care at this point? Did it not even matter? Were you actually happy now you had to take a year out?

For people who are:
1: How is it feeling sitting some as/a2 modules at home or in year12/13 or resitting year12/13 is it unbareable?
2: if you are resitting at home what are you doing with your spare time? What have you done so far?
3: If you are taking a third year/resitting at home what's it like seeing your friends move on? Did you stop looking at social media during freshers week and if you didn't how it feel looking at facebook,Snapchat ?
4: If you are in year13 retaking some as alongside a2 and have not applied what's it like hearing that your friends are getting offers? How does it feel that everyone is talking about Uni.
5: if you are resitting year12 what's it like seeing your friends moving up to year13, are you being forced to make friends with your new year12 classmates?
6: Has you changed your mind about wanting to go to uni?

You look at the most negitive ways

Oh really? Didn't notice at all

Tbh quite a few people who are forced to take a gap year look at it negatively too:smile: Some don't but quite a few do:smile:
1: How is it feeling sitting some as/a2 modules at home or in year12/13 or resitting year12/13 is it unbareable?

1. Firstly I don't like this question. I'm on a forced one as I didn't get in for medicine, as in I didn't get an offer. I got 3A's. I'm not resiting anything

2: if you are resitting at home what are you doing with your spare time? What have you done so far?

2. I'm not resiting. That said the spare time is awful at times. I currently have 3 part time jobs, full time jobs are hard to come by. When i'm not working, it's boring. I've tried to learn to cook and started to learn to code in order to fill the spare time as well as going to the gym.

3: If you are taking a third year/resitting at home what's it like seeing your friends move on? Did you stop looking at social media during freshers week and if you didn't how it feel looking at facebook,Snapchat ?

3. Admittedly seeing freshers on snapchat stories was horrible. But then you just have to think that it'll be you next year. Your friends are going to move on regardless of if you go to uni or not, so that's irrelevant. I still talk to my friends a lot still anyway.

4: If you are in year13 retaking some as alongside a2 and have not applied what's it like hearing that your friends are getting offers? How does it feel that everyone is talking about Uni.

4.N/A

5: if you are resitting year12 what's it like seeing your friends moving up to year13, are you being forced to make friends with your new year12 classmates?

5. It's not exactly the same situation. I have become more friendly with the year below me, those now in year 13 whilst i'm on ny gap year. That said being in sixth form you're friendly with the year below you anyway. On a positive note. You have more 18ths to go to.

6: Has you changed your mind about wanting to go to uni?
6.More desire to want to go to uni

Just to clarify: I have NOT had to resit a school year. I am simply on a gap year as I did not get an offer for medicine. I got 3A's which is good enough for medicine. That said, I applied for biochemistry and currently have 3 Unconditonal offers

Ah yes someone in my running group was excalty like you no medicine offer but 3A's was supposed to be 2013 entry for her but yeah she works part-time somewhere dunno if shes gone to uni now, sorry some people were forced because they failed their as/a2 I wasn't trying to say everyone who's forced has failed, I should have said '/ if you didn't get a offer' .... But what was it like being in Year13 hearing everyone around you talking about their offers and you being rejected?

Sorry to offend, but thanks for your reply I guess  x
I wish I'd taken a permenant gap year, instead of ever starting university :frown:

No offence taken  Just when you say you had to take a gap year, a lot of people think you failed your A Levels, so I like to clarify that I didn't haha!

Hmm of course I'd love to be in their position but it's not too bad! Whenever it comes up, I always spin it into a funny conversation. I'm now in their position, but instead I don't just have offers, I have unconditionals  which sound even better than standard offers haha

 Yeah I'm not on a gap year but I suppose that could get pretty annoying, tbh I classed a forced gap year as someone who didn't pass their as/a2... Medicine is competitive anyway a lot of people with 3A's/A*'s get rejected:smile: unconditional offers are the best tbh haha.... I just meant when you were actually in Year13 didn't it feel awkward that everyone around you was talking about uni and how they've got their offer(s), how did you cope with that?

P.S Why didn't you apply for boomed? Isn't that the nearest course to Medicine? Or why not reapply for Medicine?
1: I am sitting two modules through school as an external candidate and I have not started working towards them yet.

2: Mostly taking extra hours at my part time job earning money for uni but also having lazy days at home.

3: It's frustrating being stuck at home and seeing them out having a great time at university, it's made me very jealous!

4: N/A

5: N/A

6: No but I resent the teacher who was responsible for my not getting offers.

No.. I finished my A levels, did an 8 week summer internship and then went straight to university. I have no breaks :frown: Even this summer I've applied for internship positions.

Haha exactly my point, a lot of people class it as that, hence why I always make a point of mentioning that I got my grades. I'm proud of 3A's so to be stereotyped as someone who failed AS/A2 annoys me.

To be honest it didn't affect me too much. Up until April I still hoped I was going to uni, till the rejections came. Then I stayed positive til results, as I never knew what would come up in clearing.
When people went on about their uni's and where they've got offers to, it didn't bother me, I was happy for them. With my predicted grades I knew I was fully capable of getting offers for any science based course (not including medicine or oxbridge) at most uni's, so I knew I could easily be in their boat if I applied for something else (not trying to sound cocky)

Biomed and Biochem are very similar. I think biochem is bit broader, from which then I can specialise in an area.
I didn't go for medicine again, as the application process and interviews is incredibly stressful with no guarantees of an offer. I also think having now explored biochem, i'm more suited to that area. That said, having had 2 medical interviews, I don't dread any interview anymore. They're probably one of the most stressful/testing one's you'll get, so the experience of them is great.
Had I reapplied for medicine, I think I would've had a much greater chance of an offer. My A2's (AAA) are better than my AS grades (aabb), and I'm now a more well rounded individual and from working and having job interviews I feel a lot more confident and mature.

Mind me asking, what you're current situation is and why you're asking about forced gap years?
Hi! I didn't quite make it to my firm but didn't want to go to my insurance so decided to take a gap year, reapply, and take a few exams (personal goal). As such it wasn't entirely forced but I was definitely keen/prepared (bought half my stuff before results day!) to go to uni this September.

1: How is it feeling sitting some as/a2 modules at home or in year12/13 or resitting year12/13 is it unbearable?

I haven't started studying intensively for it all yet as I was focused on my application during September and October, but I'm weirdly looking forward to it because I miss studying/learning and I actually really enjoyed the modules that I'm retaking (C3, C4, English exam)

2: if you are resitting at home what are you doing with your spare time? What have you done so far?

So far I've just been looking for jobs (AN UTTER NIGHTMARE) to waste some free time; aside from that I've been (trying to do) reading for my degree subject and also for pleasure, and work towards my piano diploma. I'm also just spending more time with my family generally which has actually been really positive for me as I felt like I was super-stressed and difficult to communicate with last year. Oh and I'm also taking some trips, including a language-based one.

3: If you are taking a third year/resitting at home what's it like seeing your friends move on? Did you stop looking at social media during freshers week and if you didn't how did it feel looking at facebook, Snapchat ?

I guess it was a little depressing, but made easier by the fact that a lot of my friends are on gap years (whether forced or not). I also had lots to do while freshers was going on, so didn't really have time to check social media (I did delete my whatsapp and snapchat, but that was to focus on my statement and test prep). Also most of my friends have been really good about keeping in touch with all of us, so it's not been that difficult.

6: Have you changed your mind about wanting to go to uni?

NO. I'm all the more excited to go knowing I've had to wait an extra year! I know a friend of mine is seriously reconsidering his options though.
omg sorry that was so long haha
