Help, carrot stuck up gum!

Please don't laugh, but I was eating carrot and a long sliver was pushed up through my gum on the inside of my mouth when I bit down hard on the carrot. I thought it was just stuck to my mouth so tried to clear it with my tongue, only to push it further up instead. It's actually stuck INSIDE the gum skin, halfway up the roof of my mouth. I'm trying to push it out with a toothbrush and not succeeding...who should I see- doctor or dentist? I need real advice, cos I don't want it to give me an infection as my gums are very sensitive to these things :frown:

If you have a mirror, you could try carefully easing it out with a toothpick. CAREFULLY.

P.S. The thread title was one letter away from being the funniest ever.

cocktail stich is good for getting fine bits.
if its inside then looks like you're buggered though.
perhaps saliva will break it down overnight...
wait until morning and reassess then

i would say a dentist would be best. have u got a 24hr dentist number that u can ring they mite give u some advice

I think what you're describing is physiologically impossible. I think what happened is that you bit down so hard that the carrot just hurt your gum in a way that it got swollen so it looks like there's a stip of carrot (or something) in between the roof of your mouth and the "skin" on it...

Leave it till tomorrow and if it's what I'm talking about it will be better tomorrow. If it's what you're describing it'll be worse.

If you can't get it out then put some germaline or bonjella on.

there is no way that it can go below the mucous membrane!

I was thinking more along the lines of 0891 60 60 60.

 So glad you said gum!
On a serious note, carefully prise it out if it's not too painful or go to A+E x

No, it was actually up the gum. I had a bone socket infection very recently which had put a lot of pressure on my teeth and ergo my gums, and the teeth felt as though they were being moved... the gums were probably more mallable from this disruption.
*Update*
The carrot is out!
Thanks for your advice, Lewyh. It was horrible seeing it come out of my gum. I'm hoping that there aren't any small bits left over...will have to keep poking at it as I'm not sure it it's all gone, but 90% has at least.

Go with my idea.

Can i just ask, how pointy was the carrot?! How did it actually penetrate your gum?! So weird...

JimmyJ, I'm not quite sure what you're getting at! It is not serious- at least, there isn't any pain at all, so I'm not sure why I should seek immediate medical aid unless it was really hurting and looked really damaged, and anyway, I was planning on doing so tomorrow, but it seems to have improved now.

I'm willing to accept that it didn't go up my gum, except that I SAW it come out! The form of the carrot was visible against in the gum, and when I was getting it out, it moved downwards and part of it became visible at my gum line, increasing as the carrot moved out. I did bite on it pretty hard, and it unfortunately hit a 'space' between teeth, enabling it to go in.

 omg I so misread the title....

Just the fact you feel the need to come on here to ask for help with your lame, yet funny problem. x

 Soz to hear bout your gum ,but glad it's out now.

If it's remotely relevant, I cut my gum on a CD case once. (It was VERY stiff in its cardboard holder and I couldn't get it out with my fingers, so I pushed down on the spine of the CD with my front teeth. The CD flew out and I had bleeding gums.

P.S. Bizarre as this sounds, it's 100% true.
