I don't know whether this has already been asked but I'm kind of desperate.
When you're applying for accommodation and it asks you to write what your hobbies/interests/achievements etc are, how much detail are you supposed to go into?

A simple - i enjoy doing this, that and this.
Or - I have been doing this for x numbe r of years blah blah blah.

Help would be great !

I just made a list, separated by commas. I didn't write complete sentences or a paragraph or anything like that!

I don't think it matters too much

I just gave a brief list, and didn't exactly spend long agonising over it.
It's just so they can make a token attempt and housing people with similar interests nearby, i guess.
Not putting the quiet studious type next to the Death Metal guitar player, that sort of thing.
Would be fun if they did, mind

How come there isn't any accommodation available to undergraduates for over 40 weeks? (Or doesn't seem to be so). As some of us would actually like to stay in Manchester during summer...

get private halls then

if you look around there are contracts that are for 37, 42, and 50 weeks..also you can have your normal contract, then when it comes to summer you apply for a contract for over summer, which is extra (and usually expensive) so private halls may be cheaper. Plus if after your first year you choose to go in a house with friends, the contract can start in June, so you'd be able to stay there -plus if it was only you staying there for the summer landlords sometimes do half rent.

I don't know when we shall move in, I assume they'll send letters. But I checked the term dates on the website and first semester starts 22nd september.

When I visited on the accommodaton open day I liked the look of Victoria campus. but is it a bit creepy at night? Because it leads off from the main road, Oxford Road, do you get weirdos hanging around?
I'm just thinking about safety after nights out

hmm I'm not sure where abouts that campus is, unless you mean victoria park. but I would reccommend you always go home with someone after a night out, or learn some self defence (how ever don't carry weapons, as so famously told to like all the freshers, a lad once walking through platt field park got started on so he pull a knife on the attacker only for the attacker to grab the knife and stab the lad with it) ..oxford road is nearly always busy so I find it quite safe. buses run to quite late at night so you can grab one of them home. as for weridos not really mostly just drunk student :p:

when i got my email from the university it included this:

Expected Arrival Date (DD/MM/YYYY) N/A

even though i specifically said this:

hi I'm actually an australian student looking to do exchange in manchester so obviously needing some accomodation. I was looking into owen's park however as an international student and being in my fifth year (but doing my third year subjects) I was wondering what people think about owens. As in specifically is it more of a hall for the first years, are there many international students and also whether despite the loud and noisy reputation can you actually get some study done in your room Hah! Since its my final year I need to put my head down and study but I love the social aspect of campus accomodation and i think owens would be a good experience. Any help is appreciated!
im going to be studying law starting in september. the social element is essential to me but location is important as well. somewhere close to everything and easily accessable fro visitors. specific i know sorry. n e opinions on where is best for me? (self catering btw)
