I'd say Oak House, but it depends what you're after.

Oak House is right next to Owen's Park which is the massive one. It's right in the centre of Fallowfield so ideal for nightlife and all that.

Whitworth is closer to uni/city centre. You are about 5 mins from most uni buildings. Still got a decent social life by all accounts too.

I've put Manchester down as my insurance, how and when should I apply for accommodation? Do you think I should just apply after getting my results if I miss my offer?

I'm wondering the same thing...

Hey everybody, this is my first post, woop!

Well, I'm (hopefully) going to the Uni of Manchester in Sept... I've applied for accommodation with two things in mind which are very important to me... firstly ensuite and secondly city centre.

Kind of person that hates having to travel to and from places you see, loves a night out, likes a lie in in the morning, and will have a job in the city centre. I'm not a sporty person, but might join the university gym too. And my course will be Italian and Spanish BA

So I applied to:

1. Lambert and Fairfield Halls
2. Weston Hall
3. Opal Hall

However I recieved a reply today asking me to pick a new 3rd choice as Opal Hall is not available for first year students :frown: but I don't think there are any more ensuite self-catered on the city campus...

My question is does anybody have any recommendations for my 3rd choice?

I don't know what other area would be suitable and close to the city :s

If you have lived in / seen / applied to any University of Manchester accommodation I'd love to hear from you, all input welcome!

Thanks!

I think I'll apply after results if I miss my firm offer. Though I suppose it's different for me because I get my IB results on July 5th, so still have almost 2 months before the deadline.

I think I just don't want to tempt fate really - choosing accommodation at my insurance before I know where I'm going...

having lived in city campus accommodation, while it has been good and very very convenient for getting to town and lectures, the nightlife can't compare with fallowfield in so far as studenty events and atmosphere.
and if you want to go out to proper clubs you just hop on the bus as most people do from city campus anyway.
so if i was you go for fallowfield maybe op, if you can stick the fire alarms.
also be aware that security in some fallowfield halls, actually most of fallowfield is pretty poor, so if you have a ground floor room be super careful.
hope that helps!

Security in fallowfield is NOT a problem. There are security patrolling around all the time. I have never felt unsafe here at all this year and ive had a bloody ground floor room!!
Whitworth Park- better accomodation, closer to town for lectures and nights out.

I'd say Whitworth too. It's so close to the centre - no need to buy bus passes when everything's within walking distance

does any one know the bath room set up in whitworth park? like how many share it or it is communal?

I've taken a gap year and as i had my results i've got an unconditional offer. Does anyone know if because my offer is uncondtional that i will be guaranteed my first choice accommodation as i will definately be going there? rather than giving the places to people who might not get there grades and go to the uni, or am i in the same boat as everyone else? and if so is it frist come first served? Thanks

i think most people with unconditionals get their first choice, but nothings guarenteed

i took a gap year too and im unconditional because i've got my results i read some wher (cnt rememeber wher!) that we get priority over conditional offers! but cnt be sure that you will get first choice but i think you get priority so should all go as planned! where are u looking to go?
ok, here's what I think...
If you want en-suite + self catered, I would go for Burkhard House. Simply because it's in a really good location. the only problem with that is that you have to move out for holidays. I stayed in Pankhurst this year and had a really amazing time. But it's a bit far from the world and not really the safest place to walk back to alone after a night out.
Fallowfield is proper party-crazy, but personally I would rather have somewhere relaxing and nice to go home to, rather than somewhere where you are constantly getting woken up by fire alarms and parties. But that's different for different people!

Hey all, just a quick query, I'm going to the medschool, and prefer whitworth park out of all of them. Purely because it's nearest the medical school and i've heard loads of brilliant stuff about it.

My choices were...
1.) Richmond Park
2.) Whitworth Park
3.) Sheavyn .....

Um, i wasn't really that informed when i did these, is there any way now of swapping my choices so Whitworth's my main choice?
Can i phone or something?
Thanks
Just phone and ask, thell want to put you in whitworth anyway.
Reply 496
Yeah?
Why's that?
Because 99% of the people that apply seem to want self catered ensuite!
Reply 498
Yeah, true. I would like that although i wanna go to whitworth anywho.

Have i left it too late to apply for any good accomodation?

I will be doing an engineering foundation year and so was wondering what would be a good area to stay? Fallowfield looks nice and is cheap but is miles out of the way! i like Victoria park is it is close to the uni and nice looking / quite leafy but it is fair expensive!

For the price of a hall with en suite in fallowfield you can only get a room in victoria :s-smilie:
