hey!
i am going to be studying at the business school this september. what is the nearest accomodation?
my ideal accomodation would be ensuite and self-catering; please could someone recommend anything for me?

Hi all,

I'm a final year undergrad at St Andrews, possibly doing an MSc at Manchester for a year, followed by medicine or a Ph.D. probably at Manchester also...

Do you recommend any particular halls for us old types? I think Opal Gardens looks nice but I dont know where else is recommended by the students! Cheers

Hi I'm very likely going to Uni Of Manc in September and am thinking about accomodation now.

For the students of this school, which dorm has the best reputation in terms of overall quality, least theft, close to school etc? Thanks!

Hulme Hall would be my choice if I could have my time again (in the criteria you mentioned). It's just off Oxford Rd, but facing onto Oxford Place so there's no major traffic. It's a 10 minute walk to the campus, and is just a decent hall in general.
I'm in my final year at manchester but I'm not too sure about post grad halls. Opal Gardens is opposite the hall I lived in and looks nice. Ladybarn House is supposed to be nice also and is in a very good location. Opal Gardens is probably closer to uni (if you were to walk in a straight line!) but for access to other facilities it's not nearly as good.

Hardy Farm is miles out. Asburne Hall is supposed to be quite nice for post grads - it's all girls for undergrad but mixed for post grad. Moberly Hall is just for matures and for access to uni it's great, but the place looks pretty grim and for access to anything other than uni it's pretty grim also!

That's all I can think of off the top of my head...

I wish i could live in Owens Park. It's bloody awesome. Every time i've visited i've had the best time!!

1) Richmond Park - not lived there but good / cheap from what i've heard

2) Sheavyn House - no idea

3) Weston Hall - lived there in my first year, not the cheapest, good location for north campus / city. en suite/kitchen is cleaned for you, seem to be quick at fixing any problems (as long as you make it sound a big deal)
Sheavyn house or oak house, which do ppl reckon? went to the open house thing yesterday n ive sorted my 1st 2 choices but cnt decide which of these 2 to put 3rd, cheers 4 any feedback

Sheavyn's traditionally a high-demand hall, Oak House isn't...

hey peeps wassup yea i went to that open house yesterday. I think naturally i've been drawn to the city campus. When i went to fallowfields campus and saw oak house i couldn't imagin living there. I mean it looked so like cold not warm and welcoming but i suppose everyone has there prefrences. So i narrowed it down to Grosvenor place and whitworth. Now out of the two which one is the most lively when i saw the social area for whitworth i was like wow its huge. And from what ppl have posted on here it seems like grosvenor is dull. So which one is more active socially?

Hi there,

I went to the open day on Sunday, and whereas BEFORE i was dead set on either OP or Oak House now im not so sure...
I really liked whitworth park aswell, and i wasnt that keen on OP although will prob put it as my 3rd choice, so im torn between oak house and whitworth park to put as my 1st choice...
From people who've lived in either - what are the pro/cons??

Thanks!
Everyone I know has stayed in Owens Park and think its amazing, great social life, great people - only slight downside is apparantly food isnt too great.

I went to the open house on sunday too - I really wanted oak house, as I had heard it was really sociable...but it looks like a prison! Sheavyn was a really great accomodation (ensuite, big, new, clean), but the website calls it "A great environment for study"...does that mean its full of 'geeks'? (sorry to be crude!)

If anyone has stayed at sheavyn please could you tell me if the social life is good?! Thank-you, appreciate any replies!!!!

Heyhey one of my mates has said that you're only allowed to apply for one hall thats in 'High Demand' - but haven't seen anything in the booklet that says this or on the website - so does anyone know if its true? Cheers

I don't think that's true, it's just "recommended" (if all the halls you really want are high demand then go for it, but I really would pick at least one choice that you'd be happy with that isn't high demand, or God only knows where they'll put you if you don't get into the others)

OK cheers  yeah I'm going to put at least one that isnt high demand - are any halls in particular especially handy for getting to physics lectures/labs in first year?

Naah - everyone seems obsessed with this, but proximity to uni = far from everything else like supermarkets and decent parks (Platt Fields is huge - good place for a kick about, if you're into that sort of thing). I've lived in Fallowfield for both years, and I don't leave for a 9am lecture till 8.40 - 8.35 if I want to be sure of getting there early.

Everything (in first year, anyway) will be in the Schuster lab (the one you went to for the open day), which is just off Oxford Road.

ahh this thread has confused me even more!

i didn't go to the open house day, but i saw whitworth park on the music dept open day and really disliked it - is this really the best accomodation there is? > maybe my standards are a tad high... lol

i'm looking for - preferable ensuite, preferably catered (not necessary), quite quiet and relaxed halls, and quite near the music dept - or just off the oxford road somewhere...

anyone have any suggestions?

thanks

Few questions:-

1-Can you tell me about Burkhardt House, Pankhurst Court and Weston Hall?

2-What does: 'en suite accommodation arranged in flats of 8 or 10 people' mean? Is it different from 'ensuite facilites in all rooms'? I'm a bit confused with that.

3-How can I find out the distance between accommodation and Lime Grove? I have the maps, I just can't seem to read them well!
