Anybody heard of opportunity sampling?

Hey does anybody know what opportunity sampling is? I went on a geography fieldwork trip but I only know of the 3 sampling types but haven't heard of this one. My geography teacher mentioned it Do you think its just another word for random sampling? ThAnks! :smile:

Its not random sampling. From Psychology I know that it's when a researcher approaches people on the street. Its a spontaneous thing, although has a few issues due to being unable to represent the target population.
Using a sample that can be found at a certain time. If you went round on your geog field trip you are using this sample because you are sampling people at a certain opportunity (say the hours of 1-2o clock). Often produces bias.
