Early Steps before Graduating

I am a 2nd year student studying Aerospace Engineering at Qmul.
(MEng also its credited)
Course Structure: click on 'coursese structure"

Currently I am applying for internships and hoping to get one for sept 2015 or sept 2016.

Now in the real world its hard to get a job without experiences.

Besides applying for internships, I was wondering if you guys can give advice about anything else I should do such as:
-joining societies
-volunteering
-etc

I want to get an engineering job however I am also looking into going to banking sector. I just want to advise and help on what steps what should be taken.

Also how do i network?

If you're looking to get into the banking sector then you're probably better off posting in the appropriate forum.
