afford it?

shouldnt be too expensive than what i'll be paying.

what's the procedure tho? there wont be any re-take will it?

Erm, whats the background to it?

Why do you want to/need to change?

is this like when you apply for a degree and change after first year? (sorry i'm new to this)
how can you change? does the a level grades still matter when you do that? and whats this finance that you're talking about?

You'd have to have a very good reason, such as transfer of your supervisor to another institution.

Yes, I'd second this. The idea of transferring between institutions as a doctoral student is really rather bizarre, unless the reasons are similar to those stated by ChemistBoy (your supervisor or research team moves, etc.). Perhaps it would help if the OP specified more particularly why they think they would need to move.

Sorry that I am not able to help the OP but I do have a similar question - what if you are a FT faculty member, but the University cannot commit to provide you with any research hours to pursue a part time PhD beyond a year. In effect I could apply, get started and then next year find myself with no research hours at all (and an ever increasing teaching load). In this case do you think that transferring to another institution - or applying for a scholarship for a full time PhD elsewhere would be looked upon favourably or no? I had hoped to pursue the PhD alongside my teaching, taking up to five years but without a longer term expression of support from my current employers perhaps the alternative...seeking out a full time PhD and ideally a scholarship elsewhere would be the best approach (though leaving any paid academic position in this climate seems risky).

Any advice gratefully received.
