average length of sexual intercourse

i'm with this new guy and we were talking about sex one day and i asked him how long he usually lasts in bed. he said about 5-10 minutes.

i was pretty shocked because usually i last 40 mins - 1 hour and this has been with different guys. the shortest has been 20 mins and the longest maybe 2.5 hours.

so this led me to ask what the average length of sexual intercourse is? i've tried looking for articles but have had no such luck. is the average closer to my experiences or his?

sub question: he's also developed 'sexual paranoia', i.e. he really wants to have sex but gets nervous when he's close to the act. if you've watched human traffic, he has the same symptoms as the male protagonist. he's only had sex with one girl before and i'm a really sexual person so i think he feels intimidated by that. do you think this could be cured?

I dont think there is a dependancy on the experience to be honest, obviously one needs to be able to 'control' the timing of orgasm for both partners, in fact ive read somewhere that the idea of foreplay inhances the speed in which one reaches climax. I agree with this on point from experience. If there is a lot of foreplay before hand, then sex could last very little time, however, if both are not 'warmed up' before sexual intercourse, then the act could last long time, you should try not to have any stimulation before and gentally ease your way to climax, rather than rush the experience simply to relieve ones inner desire??

i think the foreplay is the good part, the actual sex doesnt need to last too long really, but foreplay is really important.

Yeh, i think it was a scientific report like last year that was reported in the news.

It depends what the report classed as sex tho...whether they started the clock at intercourse or foreplay. I'm guessing they mean intercourse and then stopping the clock when the guy climaxes.

most of the times start at the insertion of the penis etc.... whereas foreplay is classed as something completely different, as there is less concern to reach climax at foreplay. and if one does attempt to reach climax at foreplay, it could be considered as mutual masturbation.

Generally sex should not be the fast paced act that most people suggest to be 'at it like rabbits' rather slow and rythmic, where 2 people can feel each others needs and adhere to them... that why the act it self could last hours!!! and the end product, thoroughly enjoyable...
