Can someone help me in this question please?

A cyclist is capable of generating an average power of 3.0kW during a 4.0 km speed trial.
His aerodynamic suit and position on the cycle reduce resistive forces to 180N.

What is the approximate time achieved in the speed trial?

A 140s
B 240s
C 1300s
D 2200s

thanks :smile:

Right, well the important point here is that you assume he travels at a constant speed. This means that there is no resultant force and so he/ she applies a force of 180N.

Now Work = Force * distance, both of which you know

And power it work/ time so you can work out the time by rearranging. I'll leave you to work it out.

P=F*d/t
