Magickal_Faerie, "My interests are a bit vague, but in general are 'death and burial' and religion, mainly focusing on the Anglo-Saxon period. I'm a bit of a jack-of-all-trades however, and I have some random bits of knowledge that can't really be defined :p:"

Museobsessed, "my dissertation is about landscape theory. I'm comparing antiquarians such as William Stukeley and modern phenomenologists such as Chris Tilley ... Other than that, my interests are kind of general. I'm really into early medieval stuff, as I do re enactment of that period as well as it being academically interesting. I love British/NW European Neolithic/Bronze Age stuff and my current module is getting me all interested in climate change and its affects on archaeology and people in the past"

Catsmeat, "my interests are in south Asian prehistory and Early History, including the development of complex village societies in Chalcolithic Baluchistan, ceramic analysis and typology, the interaction of sedentary and nomadic populations (both in prehistory and in ethnography), tell formation processes, surface-survey collection techniques, and GIS/DEM approaches to data modeling ... I am also interested in the oral history of archaeology, and have been working as an organizing member of the Personal Histories Unit for several years"

I'm staking out a corner of this sub-forum for archaeology/anthropolgy (we have nowhere else to go). And so, where is everyone applying this year? I'm a post A-level applicant (Having made a mockery of my application last time) going for...

Archaeology and Anthropolgy (Gonville and Caius, Cambridge)
Archaeology (Van Mildert, Durham)
Arhcaeology (UCL)
Archaeology (York)
Classical Archaeology (KCL)
Classical Archaeology (Royal Holloway)

Archaeologists of the world unite! We have a thread.

Hi! I'm not actually applying for Archaeology, but I very nearly was, which is why I know how few people do it.
Good luck with your application this year (I too am applying post A Level after having also made a mockery of it last year:rolleyes:)!

Hiya, I have applied to do archaeology too. I have applied at

Birmingham - Archaeology
Birmingham - Archaeology and Ancient History
Leicester - Archaeology
York - Archaeology
Sheffield - Archaeology
Liverpool - Archaeology

Have to say it is about time we had our own forum (I study archaeology at UCL).
Reply 4
We should do really. But it took long enough even to get a classics forum...
Reply 5
Yeah then people could actually find it lol. There must be more archaeology people than this. Nice to find some more though
Reply 6
Has anyone received any offers yet? None for me at the moment :dontknow:

Currently a sophomore majoring in geology & archaeology. I'd like to study abroad in the UK (UCL?) next year, if I can get the paperwork filled out and approved. :stupido:

I've got an Unconditional for York (pure Archaeology). Although I have a feeling the rest of the universites will take some time...oh well, let them.
Reply 9
Yay I got a conditional offer from Liverpool and an interview from Sheffield today. Anyone got any ideas what they will ask? Im scared lol.
Reply 10
Congratulations! I honestly have no idea what Sheffield will ask...I imagine the interview will not be as formal as one at Oxbridge, more of a general "Archaeology chat". And most archaeologists are the friendliest people you could hope to meet (I work with loads of them).
I have an open day and interview at UCL on Wednesday 15 November. Does everyone who applies get invited to them and how informal is the informal interview?

Im also applying this year (choices in signature)... Although as of yet, I have no offers, so feeling rather left out! My UCAS form didn't go off until a week or so ago though, so I'm hoping some will turn up soon. Ah, if only I was clever enough for York..

Thanks to Laura for telling me we had an Archaeology thread around.. have been looking for one for a while. Was starting to think I was alone in the world!

That's ok  nice to have you here. Don't worry you will have some very soon .

Oooh second offer today  yay (Leicester).

Costing me £30 just to get to my interview for Sheffield as my mom wont drive that far  Oh well it will be worth it as I am considering going there.

Congrats to everyone with offers

Bit annoyed about RH...they've discontinued the course and so I get to choose a new one (from Ancient History or Classical Studies). Not annoyed at RH, as I'm sure it was unavoidable, just annoyed because it was a good course.

Oh well.

I'm so glad I found this page, I've been looking for one for ages and thought I'd have a look in Classics just in case

Anyway I have applied for straight Archaeology at in alphabetical order, not order of preference:

Bristol
Cardiff
Durham (Josephine Butler)
Exeter
UCL
York

I have offers from York BBB, Exeter ABB and UCL BBB  (very exited about the UCL offer as it just arrived)
I also have an offer from Cardiff but it's not on UCAS yet so I dont know what the offer is :frown:

I had an interview at UCL on the 1st which went well. If you have an interview with them don't worry. Just make sure you know why you want to do Archaeology, what bits of Archaeology you want to learn more about, why you want to go to UCL, anything else that you can think of... and then some. I talked about how I was also interested in Current affairs which resulted in being asked why I wanted to do Archaeology rather than History. (because History is written by the winners, wheras Archaeology shows everyone)

Yay third offer (from York). I never thought I would get one from there. Now I am really confused about where I want to go. I really like the sound of Sheffield but York is a lot more prestigious. I think York may be a bit far for me.
Reply 17
I now have an unconditional offer for Arch' at Durham (Van Mildert). I am really rather pleased (I made celebratory mince pies...that's how glad I am).
Reply 18
Go us and all our offers so far! I almost wish I had a mince pie right now.. maybe a trek to Tesco's is in order.

It seems I've got an informal interview at Reading in a couple of weeks. No idea what they are going to ask.. I figure I should probably find out where on earth Reading is before I start worrying about that.
Reply 19
Reading is about 40 minutes by train from London (Paddington). As to its actual geographical location I have no idea, even though i've been there.
