I'm struggling to choose between a PS4 or a HP Chromebook 11

I want the ps4 to play and socialise with friends but I also want a Chromebook for studying and doing home work

My birthday is about a month after but I won't get as much

The only downside of getting a ps4 is that I'll have to share with my older brother

Fun and socialising with friends vs study and homework.

Chrome OS is very limited. If you're fixed on getting a chromebook, install ubuntu on to it It will unlock the full potential of your device and it's free!

Sharing a console with a boy sounds like a nightmare! I am a boy so I should know!

Probs still get the PS4 though - save for the Chromebook afterwards. Schoolwork can wait!

Laptop is more useful in the long run IMO. Chromebook isn't a choice I'd make but a similar (FOSS) laptop would do the same thing, probably cheaper.

Your best bet is to weigh up the pro's and con's...

If you get the console, would you still have reasonable access to a good reliable computer in order to do your homework?

If you can honestly say yes, I'd go for the console, but then again I'm saying this because I love gaming! In all honesty though, the PS4 is a wonderful machine. The bundles available now are the best they've ever been. 2015 looks like the year which will kickstart the filling of the PS4 library with some top quality titles.

Nevertheless studying should be prioritised over the console, so if you need the laptop for your work then I'd recommend you get the laptop first. The price of the PS4 is only going to fall with time.

If you don't have regular access to a computer/laptop or the convenience to use it at certain times like for lectures, at the library and things, then yeah the laptop.

You put this in the gaming category.

I think that shows where your loyalties lie...

IMO PS4 any day. Just share with your older brother. Unless you urgently need a laptop.

Thanks guys! I think I'll get the ps4 since all of my friends are on console and I'm the only one on PC 😭

I originally intended to get a laptop for college next year but I think its important to have a social life (I'm always the quiet one and unaware of anything outside of school.)

My sister has a Chromebook... She doesn't rate it much for working on. Good for browsing and whatnot, but she prefers to do work on a Windows PC.

Of course, this could be partly down to her familiarity with the software, but there you go!
