Hello everyone,

I am currently at uni, and am beginning to start reading newspapers every day as I don't have access to a TV to watch the news at the moment. I am at Oxford, and have views slightly right of centre. I'd say i'm undecided on the moment as to who I want to lead the country next year, but do not want to see UKIP do well at all.

Apart from politics though is there a paper which has particualy high standards of journalism compared to the rest?

I've added a poll for you to suggest which newspaper which I would be best suited to. Unless you have very similar views to me, please don't vote for the paper which you read in the poll, but comment it below instead.

Thank You Very Much!

P.S. You may have gathered that from my name that I have a particular distaste to what I've read in the Daily Mail!

Forgot to point out as well that i'm an international student, so know little about the differences between the British newspapers.

Are they the big ones which are folded in half? How do they lean politically?

Free ones (Metro and Evening Standard)

Or, if you prefer to pay for your daily read...

Telegraph is best

Oh, I didn't realise! It's a lot smaller than the Independent, do they just condense the articles from the Independent to make the I?

Daily Mail = Right wing xenophobes

The Guardian = Perpetually offended champagne socialists

The Telegraph = Densely written articles to cover up the failure of its sales

The Independent = Neanderthals with the capability of only writing a headline

The Star/The Mirror/The Sun = Cheap gossiping tripe for the mass of shallow beings caked in fake tan

You're never going to find the perfect newspaper so your best bet is to read more than one.

Good and amusing summary here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...tishNewspapers

Best to read a few to get different viewpoints. The Times would be the one I'd go for if I was going to buy a paper, buy you need to pay for a subscription to access their website.

Is the Times connected to The Daily Mail in any way? Just noticed that they both have the same royal coat of arms on their logos.
