Can you ever get rid of black dyed hair? Hairdressers help!!

I have dyed PERMENANT black hair, which is really long.

I have had black hair now for ages and I'd love some highlights in there, but last time I went to the hairdressers and they tried to bleach it, my hair went orange then just snapped off!!!

I saw on Extreme Makeover this magical rinse they had they stripped the coloured dye away, but that was in America where things are generally just better!!

PLEASE HELP!! I REALLY DONT WANNA HAVE TO GROW THIS OUT!!!
Can't you get the colour stripped?

I've tried bleaching it, it just goes orange and snaps off! How do you strip it down? Is that a gradual thing?
A strong dandruff shampoo like head and Shoulders will fade it out much quicker than using ordinary shampoos. I wouldn't recommend bleaching it though - its just too much damage - that's why it's snapping off :frown:

My friend did EXACTLY the same thing!! But her hair is quite short...

She dyed it permanent black... then decided she didn't want it like that anymore!... She went to Toni & Guy (it was were she had her hair dyed originally) and had it 'bleached out', i was with her, took all afternoon and cost over £100!! (But that is probably Toni & Guy prices!!)

Granted her hair did go 'orange' (she was a blonde before which makes it worse apparently!) but was actually like a nice shade, lol, she used loads of rich conditioner for a while, and it's fine again now!

Attached are before and after pics. The first pic is the Christmas of when we were in yr13 and second pic is on holiday this summer ... she's second year of Uni now so it was 2 years ago ish(?) she had it changed.

Sorry wasn't much help to your original question, but just showing that it won't be bad forever !

Strippers are incredibly bad - as bad as if not worse than bleach.

I don't know if you could get this in the UK or get it imported, but I've heard that there's something called ColorFix in the US. The third bottle has bleach in it so obviously not too hair-safe, but the first two bottles are hair-safe (and I've heard this from someone who's given up hair dye, heat styling and is trying to grow healthy hair to tailbone length - she's got waist length right now). They seemed to make quite a difference on black hair - yes, it went orange, but after that you could go another colour on top or use something natural like henna/indigo (like the person I know who used ColorFix did) to add reds/browns.

I don't know if that'll help or if you'll be able to import it, but it might be worth a look.

When I had my hair dark purple/black permenantly I bleached it out and it went orange to keep it as non dry as possible I used a ton of conditioner. I kept it orange for 24 hours and then died over it in a light brown colour. I made sure that I used intensive conditioners for a while after the redye and I didn't have any probably with my hair being dry or snapping.
I dyed my hair permanent black and when they stripped it yes it went orange, but then they put a colour close to my natural and it didn't snap off. The stripper they used may have been too strong.
Can u strip my hair from black back to blonde hair again
