Hey all,

Thank you for the nice welcome, and hi to electro fantastic- will definitely be seeing you in Sept me dear! Have you done much in preparation for starting the course just out of interest? I'm keeping up to date with all the fashion magazines (it's a hard task, but it has to be done!) but apart from that I'm just going to wait and see I think?
Also just a question for everyone choosing the 'premium' (that's the name I think..) pack for Storthes hall, well the gym membership and internet option anyway. I was just wondering what extra I should buy since the kitchen pack is already provided. Hope that makes some sort of sense.
hey starofcctv,
I've just done the same as you really, i have subscriptions to Vogue, POP and i-D magazines, so just been keeping up to date on everything really. Also i have been buying some fashion books whenever i see them, like 'Fashion Now', '100 years of Fashion', 'Radical Fashion' etc, so i'm stocked up, but i suspect that when we know that we have definitely got in we will recieve a list of recommended books. Out of interest, we you asked for 300 UCAS points to get on to the course too?

As for the premium stuff, i am buying extra plates, bowls, cups and cutlery cause you only get enough in the kitchen pack for one person, and if i have people to stay etc i need more. I also have bought a mini george foreman for the kitchen too. Um....you get a bedding pack with the premium, but i am buying an extra pillow and two extra sets of duvet covers and pillow cases, plus a mattress protector (cause it sort of freaks me out thinking how many people have slept in the bed before me.)
Then i'm just buying all of the other usual stuff thats needed really. This is a good list to give you an idea of what you might need: http://www.studential.com/checklist/default.asp

Lol jayson, we only had a near death experience going around one of the lochs. Bloody sheep standing on the road right in our lane.

We stopped in paisley where my old man grew up and went and saw his uncle. Got to talbert by about 12:00am and slept for 5 hours untill we could get the ferry accross to Islay.

Windy as hell but its not exactly cold. Seen a few fit scottish lasses already haha.

Take care all.

electro - Thats the list I use (and am slowly working down)

Mike - When I go to Ireland its a common thing for dad to spot a lake and nearly drive into it trying to get a better look. Makes a change for the sheep like - they are normally trying to eat the cats eyes in the middle

Thanks for the list- I am sort of avoiding buying too much stuff because I don't want to jinx it so no doubt Ikea will be crammed with hundreds of students when I finally get there. Mini George Forman- lovely stuff haha! I saw a guide on how to use that on QVC(!) a while back and I was tempted! I'm a vegetarian though, so it would be fairly useless for me!

I don't read the same magazines as you, I mainly read Elle, The Sunday Times Style magazine and Grazia so I think I need to broaden my range a bit. I definitely want an ID subscription for a start- I looked on the website and found an offer for students that gets you six magazines for fifteen pounds which is pretty good. You need a to provide a student card as evidence though, so I hope the offer is still on come September.

I think you are right we will get a list of things to buy, I saw one post a girl made about a book and some stationary requirements for the course on the unofficial university guide website last year.

And I am talking as if I think I've got in already which is not the case at all- I'm very very worried. I've been asked for 300 points too and although I am predicted ABB I have had a bit of a relaxed year, so I am really unsure what I will get. I have 20 points from my AS grade in art last year (I was rubbish!); I am hoping my A from Sociology will stay the same because I got a A in my January module too but my other grades seem to have been in freefall this year:frown: I do the following subjects: sociology, english and theatre studies- which are not really related to fashion one bit. Did you take fashion/ arty subjects electrofantastic? X
Starofcctv; feel free to call me carly, almost everyone else does here, and chances are we will be in the same class in september!
Yep, i too am not buying much of the stuff i need until after results day, i daren't waste the money!
Oooooh yeah i recommend i-D definitely, as it's not just fashion, but music, films, current street trends, art, etc. Its fab! I read the sunday times style magazine too, forgot about that one. It actually the only part of the sunday times i like!
I would say that i am sure you will get in, but if you are like me then you are absolutely sick of friends and family saying it to you everytime you start worrying aloud about uni!
At results day, i will (hopefully) have the following qualifications: AS Level Drama and Theatre Studies, AS Level Textiles, A level English Literature, A Level English Language, A Level Photography, and a pass in an adult education evening course in Fashion and Design. So, not all the courses i have done a relevent to Fashion, Media and Promotion, but a couple are!

Oh sorry about hogging the board you guys, i hope you are all fine and dandy wherever it is that you all are......!
Reply 1049
Afternoon everyone

Dont worry about hogging the board Carly - Jay and I posted loads of local stuff so its only right that everyone else should get to do something similar

Canny arty list you've got there (compared to me with AVCE Engineering, A Level ICT, AS Physics and AS History (and hopefully a coaching certificate for contact sports)). Just starting to get into photography myself and helping out on a newish photography forum (PM me if you want a link)

Well the heatwave has ended here in Peterlee - yesterday it was big thunderboomers (no light-show like) and now its persistant rain :frown:

Finally started my uni shopping yesterday... just got some basic kitcheny stuff , nothing too exciting

Reply 1051
Bloody hell! Whered that come from? (I just use the subscriptions to get here)

I suppose once we hit 1000 posts there was the demand

Prepare for major posting later today - and posts in Ask A Mod for threads to be made sticky

We now have a thread for all digs stuff HERE so you might want to post the deposit question there so it doesnt get lost in all of the general chat that will happen
