Sick of my brother

I'm feeling really down right now. Ive just come home from uni to visit for a few days and my family have just been arguing all day. My brother is autistic and has really bad behaviour problems, so the house is filled with shouting and upset from his tantrums (usually because he cant play his gameboy or something). Its so stressful and my mum started crying earlier coz he was hitting himself around the face and clawing at his throat. Its really upsetting me as I've been quite homesick at uni but now i'm here i really want to go back there.

Now im starting to feel guilty coz i just wish my brother wasnt here and i could spend some peaceful time with my parents. And now i feel terrible as i know its not his fault. I just dont know what to do. I hate feeling like this :frown:

I'm not sure really, I guess just taking some time out of the house might help, go to the cinema or something or maybe get ure dad to look after ure brother and u and ure mum can go out or vice versa and then swap over or something, gives everyone a break then, I don't mean in a bad/offensive way

My brother is autistic too. How high functioning is your brother? If he's reasonably high functioning i always find that going to play a game of tennis with my brother or going for a walk with him puts him in a better mood. I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your brother though or if you'd be comfortable with this.

If you ever want to talk about anything related to autism feel free to PM me. I went through several years of this sort of thing with my bro in and out of hospital and i think i might have some good advice to offer on these sorts of matters.

Cheers,
Alex
