Tl;dr - what extra things should I be doing this year to prepare for applying to unis for an Economics degree next year

I am in year 12 and will be applying for economics next year (if I don't have to resit ) and I am just wondering what I should do this year in preparation for my personal statement to show my interest in the degree. I am going to get economic books which will further my understanding and show my interest ( should I get Less popular books so that my application is more unique?). I am also going to do work experience in June and will apply for the RES essay competition next year.
As well as this I hope to do an EPQ in an Economics related topic. Should I go to maths talks in local unis too or is that not so relevant to my degree. The same applies with talking about achieving a bronze in the senior maths challenge (it isn't too great but is it still worth mentioning?)

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your responses
P.s sorry if my sentence structure isn't good
