Could mention Aries (1960)? Childhood didn't exist in medieval times - children were literally just seen as 'mini-adults' with same rights, skills and duties as adults. People started to work at an early age too, as in 5/6 years old.

Introduction of the Children Act (1989) - Parents seen as having responsibilities towards their children, protecting them.

Could also mention how there is an age limit on several laws (eg. sex, smoking) which shows children are different from adults.
