Who decided that at the age of 18 you will be an adult?
Why not 10, 15 or 20?
What is so special about 18?

There has to be someone who said that "Hmmmm lets say that when you turn 18 you shall become an adult!".

Did you know...?

There is no minimum drinking age in Holland, as long as the alcohol is free.

In England, the minimum drinking age in private premises (i.e. at home) is 5.

In Europe, the age of consent for sex is generally lower than UK. 14 in Austria, 13 in Italy (as long as partner is under 16) and 13 in Spain generally.

In Hong Kong, there is no lower age of consent for lesbians.

Some New Zealand states have a minimum driving age of 14.

Yeah but who decided it should be 18? Why couldn't it be a different age like 15 or 20?

Because the legal age is 18. That's how it's decided

The age of majority is the threshold of adulthood as it is conceptualized (and recognized or declared) in law. It is the chronological moment when minors cease to legally be considered children and assume control over their persons, actions, and decisions, thereby terminating the legal control and legal responsibilities of their parents or guardian over and for them. Most countries set majority at 18. The word majority here refers to having greater years and being of full age; it is opposed to minority, the state of being a minor. The law in a given jurisdiction may never actually use the term "age of majority" and the term thereby refers to a collection of laws bestowing the status of adulthood. The age of majority is a legally fixed age, concept, or statutory principle, which may differ depending on the jurisdiction, and may not necessarily correspond to actual mental or physical maturity of an individual.
Basically, it's completely arbitrary.

Why did they decide that 18 was the right age then?

No idea, I'm not the one who decided it. Biological and psychological development, social convention, historical reasons, loads of notions could have contributed to the decision.
