Turkey to offer course on Christianity at schools

School students in Turkey are to be given the option of taking an elective course in Christianity.

According to World Watch Monitor, the course has been written by a committee of nine Christian leaders from different traditions in Istanbul, including Greek Orthodox and Protestants.

So far, course material has been written for fourth and fifth grade children, with the committee preparing to work on textbooks for eighth and ninth grade students next.

In Turkey, elective courses need a minimum of 12 students to sign up before they can go ahead.

Religious freedom expert Mine Yildirim told World Watch Monitor there were concerns that the course will not take place in reality.

"There are more questions than answers," said Yildirim. "If the Ministry of Education is not willing and ready to become flexible, such courses will be only a possibility in theory and never in practice."

It's good that Turkey is going to start teaching its students about Christianity, a faith with such a rich history in Turkey, and a faith with one of its holiest cities (Istanbul) within the nation. I can't help but feel that this is a PR move to show the European Court of Human Rights that it's not just a specific branch of Sunni Islam that students learn about in their forced religious classes, but even if that's so, it's a step in the right direction.
Remove Kebab, reclaim Constantinople.

Sounds good.
That's more than in Europe. Maybe not Russia who after decades of Bolshevik Commie persecuted are trying to rebuild Orthodox Christianity.Look up the 100 year war against Russia.
Well they are heading in the right direction, now they just need to teach about numerous religions objectively as part of the same course, this allows for a more secular and therefore respectful culture to emerge.
They can do whatever they want. Europeans still will not accept them in the EU
