Hi everyone,

The essay question is:

Evaluate the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the treatment of one mental health issue (e.g. depression, anxiety or OCD). Include empirical evidence in your answer.

I'm conflicted on how to structure this essay, in particular the main body paragraphs. I will put the outline below.

I would be grateful if anyone could help by providing some feedback and pointers.

Introduction:

Essay question summarised as one sentence

Essay content - 8 journal articles (3 strengths, 3 negatives and 2 alternative treatments to CBT) - I don't know exactly how to write this up since I am confused about how to write up the main body.

Definition of CBT

Definition of selected mental health issue, i.e. depression

Main Body:

P1 - Strength

P2 - Second Strength

P3 - Third Strength

P4 - Weakness

P5 - Second Weakness

P6 - Third Weakness

P7 - Alternative Treatment, i.e. Anti-depressants.

P8 - Second Alternative Treatment, i.e. Psychodynamic Therapy.

Conclusion:

A summary of the degree to which CBT is effective a whole according to the research evaluated in the main body.

Now for the part which I am mostly confused about is how to structure the main paragraphs.

Do I:

1) Introduce a strength, weakness or alternative point, e.g. One of the main strengths of CBT is that it is cost-effective. Then, insert a study and its findings to support that claim.

2) The same as the first point, but including more than one study providing they are applicable to back up the point.

3) Alternatively, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each journal article. Although, I wouldn't be sure whether it should be one paragraph including both strengths and weaknesses, or splitting it into two.

Hopefully I can receive guidance on the best way to tackle this question effectively.

Thank you for reading.

P.S. If anyone is willing to have a read over my introduction and provide some feedback, then you can either PM me directly or vice versa.
