BPP or Queen Mary - pls advise!

Hi folks,
I plans to do a Master’s Management degree in the UK and I need some advice. I am from abroad and did my degree many years ago. Most part of my career was dedicated to business development, but I am interested in Finance, too. In order to find work in the UK, I think I will need some formal education that should have more practical than academic touch. In addition, I need to improve my speaking. At first, I was looking exclusively for an MBA degree. Soon I realized that for my budget (10-15.000 GBP) I could get a sort of ‘backstreet’ MBA which will probably, be useless in terms of both tutoring level and contacts.
An education advisor than I got in contact with, recommended a BPP University course in London called Mcs Management with streams (I am interested in Finance but Project Management is also a good option for me). My first move was to turn down this proposal, as I was unable to find BBP in the university rankings. In addition, it is a private higher education provider with seemingly, arguable credibility in comparison with, for instance, The University of London.
But, when I thought twice, I discovered some advantages, too. Firstly, BPP is a specialist university, which has no research, and therefore cannot be ranked in top university rankings. For me it is probably, an advantage as I am looking for a more ‘applied’ approach to education. Secondly, BPP offers a 4-month work placement in a standard Mcs course and a 10-month work placement in their ‘Academic and Career Skills Module with work experience’. This could help me as a foreigner to understand better the realities of the job market in the UK and be better equipped for the job search. The prolonged course, apart from work placement, will guarantee a longer visa which is better for me, because I will have to leave Britain if I do not find work in the UK within 4 months upon graduating a ‘standard’ 12-month course. Finding work whilst studying could be difficult, and therefore, BBP’s offer for a work placement in the course of study could be good for me.
Probably someone who is taking the course in Management at BBP University in London could share their experience with me? I was told they are an education provider in Accounting and Law and are renowned for that. Unfortunately, I failed to find a lot about their Business unit… Can it be comparable in quality with MSc International Financial Management at Queen Mary? The costs are GBR 13,500 for a 18-month course with work experience at BBP’s Mcs Management with Finance and GBR 16,000 for a 12-month MSc International Financial Management at Queen Mary. And finally, taking into account my situation, can my 2 reasons for choosing a BBP course outweigh a supposedly better reputation of Queen Mary’s Msc International Financial Management?

Hey Elbrus-72,

Can I help you with anything? Or did you specifically want other students to offer some advice?

Thanks,
Emily

Hello Emily, thank you for answering!

Yes, in general my question was addressed to the students familiar with BPP courses, but as soon as you are here, could you discuss the reasons I gave here above. It would be nice if you set out your own argument for studying at your place, too!

In addition, I'd be thankful if you listed advantages and drawbacks of your courses compared with similar courses from well-established London universities!

... and the drawbacks, too

Thanks,

Elbrus-72, have you considered Royal Holloway, University of London MSc in Project Management programme? It contains modules in project finance and International Accounting and Finance.
