My sixth form didn't make us do an ALIS test or anything like that, but everyone I've spoken to who's done it has said it was a complete waste of time and the grades it predicted you meant nothing. GCSEs should give you a much better idea, but what I don't understand is how they predict your AS grades based on your average GCSE grade. I mean, I undestand that an A* is 8 points, an A is 7 and so on and then you divide by the number of subjects to get the average, but that doesn't explain why you're predicted different grades in some subjects than others. They don't appear to use subject specific GCSE grades either. For example, I got 1 A*, 5.5 As and 3 Bs at GCSE, so my average (8 + (5.5 x 7) + (6 x 3) / 9.5) is 6.8. My AS target grades were A A/B BB. Yet the A was in English lit, which I got an A for at GCSE, and one of the Bs was in French, which I got an A* for at GCSE The other B was in history, which I got an A for at GCSE, and the A/B was sociology, which I'd never studied before. I'm just curious as to how the whole process actually works, and the same for predicting GCSE grades from SATs results, because it confuses the hell out of me!

*Bumps* It says 'testing' on my induction thingy tomorrow and friday. Please don't tell me this is what it is <_< Did you lot take it in year 12 or year 13?

Gaah. I managed to get within the bottom 30 for non verbal in year 7, which goes to show it's rubbish. Like, how is saying what comes next in a sequence gonna determine your grades.

I did it. Was the most bull####ty thing in the world. Absolutely ridiculous, A) What is spotting the same image (with minute squares that kill my eyes and stoopid letters that are ) gonna do to prove my 'intelligence', B) There definately wasn't enough time C) How dare they ask for info on when my mum etc left school, does etc. Left that all blank D) We've only just started so how do I know what lessons are like.

The only decentish bit was the maths and some of that was like wtf Especially where they had things flying about everywhere <_<

We don't even get our results back however I know I'll be predicted something like EEEE as I ended up doing ip dip do.

If they speak to me about that I'll say look at my GCSE results and now tell me that's a fair prediction

I shall never go to Durham uni. Idiots

    I took this test today.
To tell the truth, I can't really see how a test like that would be able to test how hard we'll try for our exams or how hard we'll revise.
I'm dyslexic and naturally I find puzzle based non-verbal reasoning really difficult so I'm not expecting a good result.

On the other hand, the test is harmless.
My school doesn't give us the answer, either.

ALIS is bs. Said I'd get BBBBB when I got AAAAA well on for A*A*A*A* this year. It really doesn't count for much.

Does the test correspond to the subjects I'm doing (art biology and french) or is it a more general test with just english maths and reasoning?
