I'm doing my musical links investigation and I wanted to look into links between Steve Reich's "Drumming," and either a Yoruba or Ewe drumming piece. Because Reich was inspired by his music he heard on a trip to an Ewe culture, I was wondering if this would still be allowed. Thanks!

I don't know the terms of your assignment but the link is clear. The principals of West African drumming are very similar to those of minimalism (I did a workshop on djembe once and it struck me at the time). Obviously Reich was attracted to the textures (as Debussy was in a holiday to Java when he heard the gamelan) and familiar compositional technique.
