Does indefinite leave to remain mean that someone can they in the country forever without being deported?

I read somewhere it can be revoked. Do you know how to go about getting a passport?

It can be revoked if you commit a crime. If you have indefinite leave to remain for a year, and have been continuously living in the UK for the past 5 years, and have not done anything illegal, you can apply to become a citizen.

Full requirements are on the gov.uk website.
