How do students on the ASD spectrum settle in?

Hi, I would appreciate any first hand knowledge, either by students with ASD, or mainstream, as to how they find Keele as I am thinking of sending my son here and it looks a really nice place? Many thanks
Hi Ruby Sapphire,

My name's Jodie I work in the Student Support Centre at Keele University.
Within the department we have a Disability and Dyslexia Support Team (DDS). (http://www.keele.ac.uk/dds/). Please do get in touch to ask any questions you have about support at Keele University for students with ASD. You can get in touch by speaking to one of the advisers: http://www.keele.ac.uk/dds/contactus/

At Keele we have a range of events to settle students in to university life. One is an event run by DDS called Moving On Up which is specifically for students who have a disability to meet and get to know the campus environment before term starts. You can see last years event schedule with pictures at http://www.keele.ac.uk/dds/events/title,117014,en.php.

We also have a mentoring scheme where new students can apply for a mentor who will be in their 2nd or 3rd year and doing a similar course to them. Students who have autism can be paired with a student who has been trained in disability awareness. Information about this can be found at the following webpage - sorry for the massive link: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Gq5S9d1efYIJ:www.keele.ac.uk/dds/thinkingofcomingtokeele/Supported%2520Transition%2520for%2520Students%2520with%2520Asperger.docx+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

I hope this helps. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!
