yes - if you do them properly i.e. with heavy barbells and low reps, none of this "50 day squat challenge" bull****

What do you mean by low reps?
Mainly <10 and almost to failure by your last rep. Even 10 is considered quite high reps for "heavy" work.

As said above, the 50 day squat challenge is rubbish as you need to squat with weight. You're not challenging yourself if you're just using your body weight.

Yeah they definitely work . Use the heaviest weights you can and then do maybe 10 reps 3 times. Then when you can get past that up the weights. I use 2 x 15 kg dumbells. Try doing lunges as well.

Squats alone, especially with no weights, will do nothing whatsoever. But within a proper gym routine they're great

DO squats work for what?

The one thing they definitely work for is for making you stronger if you train them with good technique and challenging weights.
They also work for becoming more awesome :ahee:

For "getting a nice bum" - that is largely dependent on your genetics. They might help you get a rounder, fuller bum, but if you have genetics that give you a flat ass, you're not gonna end up with Kim Kardashian's rear just from doing a few squats.

Heavy squats (I mean heavy, a 5kg kettlebell isn't heavy) will definitely add some muscle mass. You won't get a big round bum from squats alone, usually those are genetic but you can improve what you have. They do make bit of difference, tbh I've noticed more change in my thighs than my bum but it's definitely bigger (eg, none of my jeans fit me anymore and I have to buy a size up but wear a belt round the waist).

All this squat challenge nonsense is bull****.

No. I had a mate who insisted squats worked better than chemotherapy. RIP Brian.
