Ovulation- *PAIN*??

Ok- so this doesn't happen every month but sometimes I get the most EXCRUTIATING pain low down on one or the other side of my tummy- kind of where I assume my ovaries are?? I double over in agony even if I'm walking- it's like a knife is being twisted in. It happened once during a French GCSE and I had to leave- the school nurse just said it was a 'spasming fallopian tube' I KID YOU NOT  but it happens every now and then...do you think this is ovulation and if so WHY does it hurt so bad and not every month and what can I do??

Thanks for reading and sorry if it's gross but it's not as bad as some threads in here!!

A twisted fallopian tube? They come up with new and exciting things to go wrong every single day!
Wow you're not anonymous, good on you. Neither am I

I can't say I'm the same but I do feel some pain sometimes. I am too a little bit worried about it. It goes away soon and doesn't come back until the next cycle (I struggle to say whether I feel it every cycle or not) and it's not that bad anyway, it's in a very specific place, like someone grabed my [presumably] ovaries and twisted them, but it's not exactly sharp or "excruciating".

Sorry for the useless post... Should I be worried? All the best xx

I sometimes feel pain when I ovulate though not as bad as what you've described. Only a few women feel pain but I dont think its anything to worry about. If it really bothers you, you could try the combined pill which prevents ovulation.

I didnt' see the point in anon  all girls have to ovulate!! If it was something like 'OMG- I have a SQUIRREL stuck up my nose' I may consider anon!!

It's not every time for me either- I'd say it's only happen 4 times in nearly 10 years of periods...For me it lasts about an hour...the grabbing is that same for me but also stabbing....really sharp, lasting about a minute each times with about 4 minute intervals...I looked like a RIGHT muppet collapsing every 5 mins at Uni of Friday...the people around were like WTF I was like....'erm....hunger cramps....HEHE....'

Not useless- don't worry- I want to know if I should be worried too- I don't want to go to the doctor as I've not registered yet and I can't really be bothered!!

Are there any side-effects to that?? Thanks for your reply.

I've never taken the combined pill myself so I'm not sure about side effects. I'd ask your doctor or check out some of the threads here.
Hm I think it happens quite often with me, may be not every time but more like 2 out of 3 or something! I do have some syndrome from birth because of which I get awful leg cramps when I do no excercise for a long time, do a lot of excercise for a short time or when I'm on my period :frown: It sucks big time, hurts so much I cry. And I get the most awful period pains. So I guess I'm more likely to experience ovulation pain as well?
Combined Pill sounds serious, I'm sure it must have some effect on fertility if taken for a long enough time? I'm too paranoid to go on the pill  and my pain is not so long-lasting anyway. And it's nothing compared to period pain. So I think I'll be altright

Oh, and hunger cramps? When I'm rolling on the floor in pain and crying out loud when my period comes on I blame it on my leg cramps  for the sanity of my brother. Thank god for Ibuprofen for making the roling time so much shorter!

I used to get the most AWFUL growing pains so I sympathise with your cramps...I HATE cramps... I too have CHRONIC period pains which can take me out completely for days at a time- NOTHING helps I normally crawl into a SCORCHING bath/curl up around a SCORCHING hot water bottle and cry...LOUDLY...

I'm too scared to go on anything to- nothing to do with fertility (HATE kids) but because I don't like the idea of messing around with my body...

I've got some extra strong Ibruprofen which is meant to last 12 hours- if you take that with paracetamol (hope you can safely do that  ) it takes the edge of the pain- for me anyway....

Thanks for your replies!!

It's called Mittelschmerz if you want to look it up. Happens to about 20% of women, some worse that others

A hormonal birth control which prevents ovulation may help, but it doesn't really cause any problems - and it'll be handy if you want to try for kids in the future

what kind of pains are they? Is it like sharp stabbing pains?

I get them, normally when I get them it means my period is going ot be heavier and more painful - but when I went on the pill it calmed them down - I still get period pains and occasions ovulation pains, but never as bad as they were. And the pill made my periods lighter as well  I might change my pill though..the pains been getting worse recently..

What day of the cycle does ovulation happen?

I think it's the 14th day? Anyway yes I get them aswell, more on my left hand side.

Its not really due to ovulation, I think you're nurse is right by saying a spazeming (twitching/aggitated) fallopean tube. You only release one egg at a time, and its too small to cause any pain. Its nothing serious, although if it really gets a problem, go to the docs.

i get the exact same feeling. It feels about as bad as period pains...but its not the same pain. It feels sometimes like i can actually feel it travelling down my tube. how rank is that?
