There are actually several different variations.

n00b/noob tend to be as described above, but then you have newb, which is more of a 'understandably new to experience, so won't go hard on you'.

Then of course you have 'noober/noobeh' which is another way of saying any of the above, slowly ramping up to '****ing peice of **** noob *******', which pretty much means you should look for another hobby.
