z^2 - 3z + 2 = (z-1)(z-2). Does that help?

hehe yes...woops:redface: that was a bit obvious!

What about this? : When P(z) is divided by z+1 the remainder is -8 and when divided by z-3 the remainder is 4. find the remainder when P(z) is divided by (z-3)(z+1)

How many times? Stop giving full solutions. It helps no one and wastes my time here.

I'm patronising? You're the one giving full solutions to easy problems. Please don't waste my time here. Either offer yourself out as a full time homework machine, or do as the rest of us do. Giving out entire answers is pointless and negates all the time I spend here. I could spend 15 minutes working out a question, formulating a subtle but useful hint and drawing a diagram for people, then post it, and two minutes later you barge in heavy-handed with a full solution that most people on here will just copy down blindly.

I've even recently seen threads in this forum specifically not asking for full solutions, but only for a bit of help. Why do you do it? It annoys everyone but the people who just want a bit of homework doing by someone other than them, and you're not helping them, in the long run.
