Durham does BA Economics.Looking forward to doing BSC Economics.Yup looked at York but I don't prefer campus universities!City universities are quite nice!

Ah, I see. Durham is my aspirational choice. I won't be too disappointed if I don't get it, considering the sheer amount of competition. I like the idea of colleges! Buuuuuut, London does appeal. The idea of being close to so many amazing things, like the British Museum.

I got 2A*'s, 3A's, 5B's and a C at GCSE and have received all 5 offers including and unconditional from the University of Birmingham to do History, don't panic!

That's so reassuring. Thank you!
We got pretty much the same haha. I got 4.5 B's, (Short course RE)

Which universities did you apply to?
Well done. I never hear of anyone getting unconditionals. Your application must have been exceptional!

London's too expensive :frown:
Plus,I'd prefer Manchester even if I get an offer from any of my aspirational choices!

Yeah, it is. I really do love Brighton, and that makes Sussex very appealing. It's quite expensive too though. Manchester will be really good for concerts, etc.

Thanks! That makes me feel a bit better haha. Oh, cool! Particularly thankful that you replied to my thread considering it's not even your subject lol. They are all great places! I almost applied for Sheffield. Not gonna lie, whether the place interviewed for my course or not DID influence my decisions a bit haha. So stressful :frown: I'm sure you'll ace it though

Haha no worries. I would recommend Exeter, it's highly rated for history and is an amazing uni

Yeah, it does look beautiful
Unfortunately though, I love all 5 of my courses, and therefore have no more room haha. I have noticed how high it is on league tables for quite a few courses this year!

Word of warning: it isn't.

Transferable skills fam...
Although realistically arts degrees are not as valuable as STEM degrees because they do not qualify you for a specified field. She'll be fine as long as she knows what she wants to do and gets relevant work experience whilst at uni.

Arts degrees + relevant work experience = success
Arts degree + three years of partying = dole

Simples.
I got similar GCSEs (1A* 4As 5Bs) and I got 5 offers last year including Cambridge so you'll be fine. Some Unis look at GCSEs more than others but other than for Oxford 2A* should be more than enough unless you went to a very well performing school
I don't see your gcse's being a problem. However Durham is extremely competitive and only give offers to 40% of their applicants so it is difficult to know whether they make you an offer. I suspect the others will

Thanks for the advice, i'll take that on board.

Possible, but unlikely if you come across someone who actually specialises in those fields.

Not at all. If you actually researched this, History graduates are just as/even more valued than any other degree.

History at a good uni > accounting/finance at any university - by far.

I applied to University of Birmingham, Uni of Manchester, Uni of Liverpool, Coventry and Lincoln. Have you sent yours off yet?

Wow, can't get more reassurance than that haha. I'm from Northern Ireland and go to a grammar school, but it should be okay hopefully.

And what would you do after the masters?

Point is, get into one of the universities and then change course to something that is more career orientated.

You do realize that some of the most successful people in finance, politics, and business have degrees in humanities?

Thanks. Yeah, I applied for the joint honours with Classics, rather than the single honours. Apparently both History and Classics read my application though and have to approve it. So I dunno. The single honours is notoriously difficult to get into. Hopefully York or Kings will!

Thank you! Yeah, I was always under the impression that it was a really good degree, considering the amount of skills you acquire! Perhaps not as many prospects as STEM degrees, but they were never my strength anyway.

You could even argue that they have more prospects, because humanities are less 'set' on a certain career, if you get what I mean. But there are very good reasons to do both kinds of degrees.

Anyway, you're aim is if anything too low! I know a lot of people with terrible AS grades applying to AAA-BBB unis, so compared to them you're in a great position.
I applied for history with same predictions and similar entry requirements (ranging A*AA-ABB), and currently have 3 offers.
Good luck!

Wow, cool! Nope. I had my referee interview 5 days ago. Will hopefully be sent off next week at some stage. I know that it's equal consideration up until 15th January, but since I am sending mine off mid-December, will it be harder to get a place since the universities have already started handing out places? :frown:

Thank you! That helps. Where are the 3 offers from?

Glad I could help
Offers from Kent, Southampton and Newcastle. Still waiting on Bristol (my top choice) and Edinburgh, though.
